Update: Smell anything Stanford?

From the realtor:

Note: This house has been vacant for years! It isn’t their sewage.

If you live in the 300 block of West Main in Stanford you probably do. If not, wait until the temperature warms up a bit:

That isn’t a creek, it’s raw sewage!

The story I was told is that the house where this sewage is hasn’t been occupied for awhile. The owner isn’t local and finally decided to sell.

The realtor he hired went to the house and found this in the backyard. After getting a professional opinion of the problem, it was determined this is a break in the Village of Stanford’s sewer line. The home is not on septic. Stanford thinks the homeowner is responsible for THEIR system.

Months of trying to get the Village to fix their pipe have failed. The McLean County Health Department isn’t doing anything either. Supposedly the State’s Attorney’s office has something sitting in their office.

Of course nobody is going to buy the house until it’s fixed. Don’t let kids in the area play outside-it’s a health hazard.

If I was in government in Stanford I would be expecting a visit from the IEPA. Just guessing.

  1. All the Rural towns “leaders” seem to use the – home or landowner responsibility blame and cost and mantra. The “never enough town resources or $” narrative too.

Honestly if its the town leadership or attorney saying this they need push back- they know most normal owners/taxpayers cant afford legal costs or attorneys or clean up costs – a shame
    $$

  2. Someone needs to notify the media like WEEK News 25. I have found that things get done quickly when it’s exposed on the news.

      1. What sewer is in Stanford I’ve never heard of one. I’d love to get my home hooked up.

  3. As noted before, Stantucky has only privately septic systems. There have been several talks of a public system and land had been purchased, but lack of money assistance has stymied progress
Perhaps federal and state money could be better spent updating needed “infrastructure for the community and the country instead of pandering to people of other countries that seem to not have a tinker’s damn about the place where the money comes from

  4. All residents have a septic tank and seepage beds that are home owner responsibility. We are a small town and do not have a sewer system for the town.

  5. This is the home owners issue. There is no town sewage system. The people are trying to sell this house after they purchased it and then found out the septic tank was bad. They bought the house as is. It is completely the home owners problem.

  6. Based on experience the McLean County Health Dept statements and perspectives on Who does what is both flawed and uneducated and mis-guided. Nothing new (political and legal buddies are abundant in McLean County)

And its clear they have “instruction” to blame or charge property owners for tile breakages, sewer, water main break issues with private property and sewage backup and other city related expenses.

    Taxation is theft.,
