FOIA’d Bloomington payments: Coliseum

By: Diane Benjamin

I saw two payments on Bloomington’s last Bills and Payroll I wanted to know more about, so I filed a FOIA. No event reports are on the City website for either of the events even though one took place in early May and the other took place in April. https://www.bloomingtonil.gov/government/advanced-components/documents/-folder-2104#docan2735_6873_64

The lack of transparency with Coliseum reports does nothing to instill confidence in the City’s ability to run the place! Additional staff has been hired, are reports too difficult?

This was one of the payments:

That one turns out to be the profit from the Gun and Hoses event at the Coliseum:

The second one is MUCH bigger:

An event report would say a lot more, but there isn’t one available. Evidently I have to FOIA that too.

This one turns out to be Disney On Ice. This is what I received:

Disney made a ton of money on this show. Bloomington might have but without an event report we don’t know how much they made on concessions. It could have been a lot!

So far all we know is the gate split heavily favored Disney: $623,824 compared to $59,949.

I wouldn’t have to file FOIA’s if the information that should be disclosed was.
