April 1, 2025 Update

By: Diane Benjamin

Normal is has three Council seats up for election next year, so far only Kevin McCarthy has filed. The other two up for election are Scott Preston and Chemberly Harris. Harris claimed she’s running for mayor but hasn’t filed yet. Watch filings here: https://www.normalil.gov/114/Municipal-Elections

The only new filing in Bloomington is Ward 1. Jenna Kearns filed which sets up a contest with Benjamin Zimmerman who filed the 1st day.

Ward 3 only has Sheila Montney.

Ward 5 only has Mike Straza.

Ward 7 only has Mollie Ward.

Ward 9 has the only other choice between Roger Bedeker and Abby Scott, wife of County Board member Corey Beirne.

Dan Brady is running for mayor against current alderman Cody Hendricks. When Dan Brady ran for Secretary of State he got over 16,000 votes in Bloomington:

Two years ago only 12,947 people in Bloomington voted in the consolidated election. Four years ago when the current mayor was election only 11,641 people in Bloomington voted. See all prior election results here: https://bloomingtonelectionsil.gov/elections/pastresults/

Those are SAD numbers considering the people on the April ballot are the ones TAXING you to death.

There is still time to file, track filings here: https://bloomingtonelectionsil.gov/2025-consolidated-elections/

Filing for School Boards doesn’t start until November 12th. More information here: https://www.mcleancountyil.gov/DocumentCenter/View/27940/School-Board-Candidate-Packet

There are a lot of other offices that will be on the ballot. See this list and information on how to run: https://www.mcleancountyil.gov/760/Candidate-Filing-Information

  1. Central Appraisal District (Assessment data integrity) and changes and GIS Data Integrity and projects need to be addressed eventually county wide. Property Tax systems and process and money grabs and calling it abiding by “fair” taxing is deceptive and a money grab. Also taxing unrealized gains (property taxes) should be illegal.

Neither side of the aisle care because they call everything “innovation” or economy improvement or reducing technical debt (what a scam for property owners and taxpayers). The Real Estate bubble and system helps elites for sure.

Wonder if anyone on these tickets will even discuss any of it. Economies at the Micro Level and taxpayers/citizens are impacted by county and local systems and process and money funnels.

  2. Dan Brady? The guy who speaks out of both sides of his mouth? I thought we were finally Free of him. But it’s that time of season, THE STINK BUGS are back!

  3. The bar for signatures is too high in Normal. It’s the same number of signatures to run for mayor as it is to run for a measly council seat. They do this to keep people from running.
