Seattle minimum wage hike forces closures: Surprise, surprise! The very thing libertarians and conservatives have been warning about for years, which has been born out in locality after locality, is now happening in Seattle, Washington.
Starting on January 1, the minimum wage in the city has jumped to $20.76, up from $17.25. But note that the minimum wage is always and everywhere $0—the business you’re employed by could always turn to dust, and that’s what some have done in advance of this wage hike taking effect. A popular waffle shop just closed, with owner Corina Luckenbach citing the high cost of labor as the main reason. “This is financially just not going to make sense anymore. Because, just for me, the increase would cost me $32,000 more a year,” Luckenbach told Fox 13 TV. Expect more closures to follow.

Did you buy Rivian stock when it was first offered? Obviously something was wrong since the IPO price is down around 90%. Evidently this was sent to stock holders. If you can’t read it, it’s a class action lawsuit alleging securities fraud by materially falsifying disclosures. Minimum wage is not a living wage. Minimum wage needs to keep rising.
At least employers in Illinois now have to identify the salary being offered on their predatory help wanted postings.
It’s for unskilled labor, not to live on. Want to earn more? Contribute more. Simple Economics too tough?
All these wage increases have benefited me. Let’s see…in 2020 I was making $21.50 an hour as an educated person. In 2024, I now make close to $40.00 an hour. Moral of the story? We all increased our wages too which increased service costs. Employer simply increased prices to provide me more income. Why would an uneducated and unskilled person deserve to make the same wage as me? You wanted this….you got this.
In some ways every taxpayer in Illinois is a shareholder. Pritzker gave Rivian almost a billion dollars tax dollars this year.
Monetary policy is the real culprit. Minimum wage or living wage is merely a distraction from that reality. Predatory help wanted postings, lol, hahaha.

Do you realize increasing minimum wage to 15 an hour causes millions of families to lose free health care because they are making more than the poverty level set by the federal government. They are also losing SNAP benefits, rental subsidies and they start paying taxes that make the increase null and void. The DEMOCRATS are not helping the poor they are stealing money from small businesses. They are either stupid or hate poor people.
