In the two years John Danenberger has been on the Council he evidently didn’t notice procedures. He wanted to pull item K from the Consent Agenda, but instead of just stating that he preceded with an explanation and motion. That should have come after the vote on the other items, not before. Just hit Play below.
The Consent Agenda remanded the item back to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Danenberger’s motion to deny to special use permit was unnecessary at this time. The Council preceded to vote on the rest of the Consent Agenda, then came back to K.
Mollie Ward thought some family would be thrown out if one of the three apartments in the motion passed. According to Danenberger only 2 units exist now, the third unit isn’t livable. Nobody is getting thrown out. He claims this property across the street is only 40% for the same reason: https://blnnews.com/2023/08/29/bloomington-part-2-2/
Kearns and Ward voted no, denying the special use permit was passed by the rest of the Council minus Mike Straza who recused himself because he had been on the Zoning Board prior to being elected.
Since approving the special use permit was never on the agenda, the grandstanding wasn’t necessary. If one of the other alderman had pulled the item Danenberger could have given his speech then.
