Evidently No One At the County Knows How to Get Rid of the Current Auditor

By: Diane Benjamin

This one is easy, but read this first:

The current Auditor has a surety bond. That bond is required for her position and is paid for by taxpayers.

Michele Anderson has now cost the County money because she didn’t do her job. The County can make a claim against her bond and get reimbursed for expenses. The bond company will then cancel her bond. Without a bond Anderson loses her job. The County could then appoint someone who will do the job.

Taxpayers shouldn’t get the bill! Anderson should not be in office. If both parties had bothered to run opponents in last November’s election, she wouldn’t be. Instead they wanted voters to eliminate the office.

The Bloomington Election Commission is a huge waste of money. Try eliminating that one instead.

  1. For years I’ve asked and prodded for specifics on exactly WHAT the BEC specifically does and how they use and share and Integrate/access/share data if all types in McLean County and B-N and state. (And with whom/when) And how much we are paying for this so called service. (And who is related or affiliated with who $$$ running it’s all if that is indeed the case)

If it’s a state and or county tax funded entity “helping” with elections and IT and system work If like to know.

Transparency with these local public private contracts and partners is extremely vague and poor. Maybe taxpayers and voters could use that detail and make the process transparent to all taxpayers.

Thanks for keeping up on this!!

  2. During the County Finance Committee on the 2026 Budget – The amount listed the County collects from Bloomington taxpayers and passed on to the BEC was budgeted for $842,407 in 2025 and for $904,728 in 2026.
