The ISU Table Flipper Police Interview

Cloudfare, the company keeping the internet safe from attacks, was attacked earlier today. It appears to mostly back up and running but it has affected WordPress and therefore my posts.

I don’t know if stories are going to anyone who hasn’t subscribed. Now would be a good time to subscribe if you haven’t: https://blnnews.com/2020/10/19/search/

This is likely the kind of video the Bloomington clerk wants to charge for – commercial FOIA. It is the ISU police interview and body cam of Derek Lopez, the guy who has now been arrested by the FBI for threatening the president. That was after he was arrested for flipping the Turning Point USA table on the ISU campus.

It has a lot of details that previously haven’t been released. Hint: He thinks everyone around Trump, including Charlie Kirk, are Nazis and fascists. One police officer asked him why he couldn’t just have a conversation. His response is more than interesting. He was also asked about his threatening online posts, again very interesting response. He declared he was only pretending to be going for a Master’s Degree so he had the Teaching Assistant job. Are guys like him what ISU is hiding from FOIA? https://blnnews.com/2025/11/15/isu-foia-fail/

Lopez was also asked about a threatening phone call to the GOP headquarters. If you didn’t hear, the GOP was holding a meeting the day they received the call. The Bloomington police considered it serious enough to provide security. Lopez claims it wasn’t him.

  1. Putting his stupid and childish Tom and Jerry t-shirt aside, I can already tell he is an idiot, because he talked to the police without his attorney present. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

  2. Overall I feel sorry for someone that delusional. He calmly and self righteously justified cowering people into giving up their beliefs by labeling, using violent words and violent actions. Not a whole lot of difference btw him and the one that took Charlie Kirk’s life. Thank goodness for the quick action of the police and FBI. But I was a little dissapointed in the interviewer/s questions. Not very probing.

  3. A person who is confused about what is right and wrong and someone brain washed about Nazism and Fascism is what I hear. A few years ago it was every Republican it seemed like was a traitor like the Confederate army and General Lee on social media. Good grief for the life of me I don’t know where they got the vibe Lee was a traitor is beyond me. I used to joke and say we have a generation TV schooled and now we have a generation social media schooled. The scary part is there are many more like him.

He says he wanted to be married, work with computers, etc. Well he’s messed that future up that is for sure. Now no employer will likely touch him. Too much of a risk bringing him in and snapping and no telling what he might do. Too much of a legal risk of being sued if he does snap and cause harm.

Is he totally wasted? I would say no. He just needs to come to terms that there are always going to be people you disagree with and he learns to control his emotions. I think what we have is a generation that disagrees with something and goes into attack mode.

  4. he worked at another place in town too but for some reason no one wants to talk about that.
he also has social/friendship connection with a certain city council member and her elected county teacher husband too..
