Bloomington tonight (2/23/26)

By: Diane Benjamin

Agenda: https://bloomingtonil.portal.civicclerk.com/event/4113/files/agenda/12437

From the Consent Agenda:

Bloomington will approve hiring this firm to make the Sign Code make sense.

Meanwhile, the first item on the Regular Agenda makes a change to the Sign Code:

The only other item is a first look at the budget.

Historic Total!

Of course nothing is available BEFORE the meeting. Let the spin begin.

It’s interesting the 2026 budget had $81 million allocated to capital projects: https://www.bloomingtonil.gov/home/showdocument?id=31561&t=638876759236656863

That budget totaled $317.9M, so tonight’s is going to be even bigger.

I wonder why Bloomington is still sending money to the County for “mental health”? Didn’t the Council suspend payments pending an audit?

  1. All three government bodies are required to sign off on any changes to the IGA. The County has not agreed to suspending the funding. The County is probably waiting for the audit report.

  2. City has an entire Legal Department & the City Mgr. is an attorney and yet… they have to hire consultants to figure out the sign code?

  3. They should make it a class project for a bunch of 5th graders rather than spend $69,000.00 on a rewrite of the sign code. Probably had a bunch of libtard intellectuals that think a man can breast feed and have a baby wirte the stuff up this last time. Geesh. Just about any sign guy could do it. Gov sure likes to waste our tax dollars though that’s for sure.
