Staff from the YWCA are making presentations to local governments all over Bloomington-Normal about the “childcare crisis”.
The Board got handouts, nobody in the crowd did. Lights were not turned off during the presentation so filming the screen was mostly a waste of time.
One note from early in the presentation: DCFS requires background checks on all childcare workers. They take 4-8 weeks to complete which means that applicants to work at a center can get hired and told the job starts whenever DCFS gets the background check done.
I’m sure people in need of a job will sit at home and wait. The only alternative is the center hiring that person to do something other than childcare until the background check is complete. Laid off employees of other recently closed centers have to go through the background check again even though DCFS already did one on them.
In other words: The CRISIS is exacerbated by government regulations.
Later in the video the Fire Marshall will also be blamed because that office now requires fireproof doors that can cost $50,000.
Repeat the In Other Words sentence until it’s ingrained in your brain. Government intervention will never solve the problem they helped create or make worse. More money never works because they always need even more.
The YWCA is leading the charge to shape public opinion. If they can convince local governments a crisis exists, then of course the fix has to be funded. Free markets can fix it, Illinois regulations prevent that from happening.

The speaker mentioned subsidies are available depending on income – I believe that is why Katie’s Kids shows a range. Their $443 price isn’t $200 more expensive than the YWCA.

Obviously none of these daycares have prices $200 more a week than the YWCA. Montessori is $335 while the YWCA is $250.
FYI: My kids went to part-time daycare at the YWCA years ago. They loved swimming lessons, the pool has since closed I believe. The staff had no idea how to deal with my very ADHD son. My daughter once crawled out of the room and nobody noticed. I found her in a dark room by herself when I went to pick her up. The weren’t enrolled there long term.

Second Presbyterian preschool shutdown 3 months ago because of state regulations.
In order to recertify their preschool/daycare license, state fire marshalls had to come through the 70 year old educational building where the preschool was held for literally all 70 years with zero prior issues. The state fire marshalls refused to recertify the preschool because there was no fire suppression system, which would have cost at least half a million dollars to remediate. Additionally , because the preschool was down 1 too many steps of stairs (9 steps, legal cut off was 8 steps) it was technically in a “basement”, even though it’s windows are at ground level, which triggered a whole host of other impossible to remedy insane state regulations on distances for how long a hallway could be to be considered a “fire exist” according to the state fire code.
Also a 3 story atrium at the entrance to the building was a vertical fire hazard because of the risk of “updrafts”. Once again, impossible to remedy without insanely expensive complete reconstruction of the building.
So government regulations made it completely non-feasable for a non profit church to run a childcare center.
The childcare “crisis” in Bloomington normal is government created. Don’t believe the lies from liberal Democrats that the government can solve this government created problem with new government programs, spending increases, and tax hikes. It’s a false promise that will make things even worse.
You know what would be much more beneficial for the Young Women’s Christian Association to do instead of beg for government handouts?
Go tell young women to get married and stay at home with their kids, instead of paying strangers to watch their kids while the moms slave away for some stranger who is their boss.
