Hey Alan Guebert: still want a farm bill?

The Pantagraph prints a column on Sundays by farm reporter Alan Guebert.  Frequently he bashes the do-nothing Congress that hasn’t passed a farm bill.  After reading this, I hope they NEVER pass a farm bill and END the current subsidies.  Government isn’t working to help family farms, they are setting themselves up with subsidies.  What say you, Alan?

“Washington, D.C., doesn’t have many farms, or farmers.
Yet thousands of residents in and around the nation’s capital receive millions of dollars every year in federal farm subsidies”

In December, we issued our study, The Federal Transfer Report- Farm Subsidies & The Big Dogs, exposing federal farm subsidies flowing to major American cities- Chicago, Washington D.C., and New York.

Yesterday the Washington Examiner wrote:
To illustrate just how far the subsidy program has strayed from its original purpose, Open The Books calculated payments going to

three major cities with few, if any, modern ties to farming: Washington, D.C., New York City and Chicago. Taxpayers sent $30 million to those residents over the past four years to compensate them for converting farmland to conservation areas and for growing soybeans, cotton, corn, rice and other crops.

The big-city farm subsidies show that savvy landowners are legally maximizing a return on their real estate investments at the expense of taxpayers, Andrzejewski said. They buy land, hire a farm manager and collect a check from the federal government, he said.

Farm Subsidies & The Big Dogs- You Pay, They Collect:

The powerful enrich themselves at your expense by lobbying for special deals, and you pay. This is how a nation of hardworking, productive people morph into a nation of people seeking government handouts. YOUR action and YOUR activity are necessary to stop America’s slide into an unproductive “transfer state.”

Thankfully, our report has also been published by ReasonNational ReviewGateway Pundit, and The Blaze. CNSnews.com published our research regarding State and Local Governments Receiving Millions in Federal Farm Subsidies.
