Why Unit 5 needs money

by:  Diane Benjamin

Last night, according to the Pantagraph, the Unit 5 School Board hired Dr. Mark Daniel as Superintendent.  Dr. Daniel is the only candidate I profiled because he was obviously the best choice.

In the private sector the employer ALWAYS tries to get employees as cheap as possible.  It’s their money and they have a duty to the company and shareholders to be fiscally responsible.  Government never takes that route.

I reported previously what Dr. Daniel’s current base salary is: $120,000 + increases to $135,000  http://blnnews.com/2014/03/04/attn-unit-5-school-board/

So, how much is Unit 5 going to pay him?  According to the Pantagraph, a base salary of $190,000!  A $55,000 raise just to change jobs.  His salary was readily available on the Internet, did they bother to look?  Dr. Daniel wouldn’t have taken the job for a $40,000 raise?  $50,000?

Obviously taxpayers are the last to be considered when spending money.

Remember that when you vote NO on the 1% Sales Tax increase.  More money is something these people can not be trusted with!

  1. However,,,maybe the out-of-towners should get more seeing how they will be working for/putting up with complete idiots and all that entails. Coming into McLean County and working with a bunch of non-witted bozos isn’t easy and may cause undue stress. I don’t necessarily agree with it, just sayin’.
