Who gave money to PASS the 1% School Sales Tax?

by:  Diane Benjamin

The citizen group organized to fight the 1% Sales Tax increase – and who won! – raised far less than the group trying to get it passed.

Reports of contributors must be filed with the State – here’s a link to a list of the Pro-Sales Tax supporters from 1/23/2014 to 3/31/2014:

.

Note the unions and contractors who would benefit from construction if the tax had passed.

I’m not sure what the term “in-kind consulting” means, but this group claims they donated it:

.

Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Inc Attn: Anne Noble, Public Finance De

In-Kind Contribution
Consulting
McLean County Sales Tax Referendum
Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Inc Attn: Anne Noble, Public Finance De

.

As of 3/31 this group still had $10,716.62 (http://www.elections.il.gov/CampaignDisclosure/D2Quarterly.aspx?id=528713)

.

Even though the increase was soundly defeated, they may be back.  I’m sure the citizens against the tax will be ready again.
