“Cheers” for inept government!

by:  Diane Benjamin

Celebrate Celebrate!  The Pantagraph is cheering the Bloomington City Council for moving quickly to fix the Pepsi Ice Center parking garage.

It’s been closed for 11 months Pantagraph!

Worse, the parking garage isn’t even 10 years old.  Taxpayers paid around $3,3000,000 for the original construction.  Monday night the Council will review bids to fix it.  Details are being released in an addendum, citizens don’t need to know the details too early!  Still no word if the Coliseum has extensive cracks.  The same guys built both with the same type of construction, but don’t ask questions!  Everything is fine, nothing to see here.  Maybe the same City engineers (the ones that estimate every project way too low) did an inspection.  Are they the same engineers who oversaw the construction and didn’t notice any problems?

Where are the “JEERS? for being completely irresponsible with taxpayer money Pantagraph?  Where are the “JEERS” for Tom Hamilton and Judy Markowitz  for throwing millions of hard-earned tax dollars away?  Everything is now fine because more tax dollars are needed to fix it?

I hear the architect is located in Canada.  bbb.ca  America doesn’t have architects?  Did you “JEER” outsourcing to another country Pantagraph?

If the City of Bloomington recovers no money, the Pantagraph will never report it.  Taxpayers will pay, and when the garage is fixed the City will celebrate with a ribbon cutting.  The Pantagraph will “Cheer” them again.

Who is going to use the parking garage once it’s fixed?

Have you noticed a lack of scheduled events?

Maybe next the City will provide free medical marijuana to taxpayers.  It cheaper than having citizens who ask questions.

  1. Talking to a friend of mine who worked on the coliseum, says there were never any city engineers or inspectors on the job. Maybe you should FOIA the inspection reports from the city engineers, if there are none maybe now we see the problem. Who was responsible for inspection?

  2. Where are the reports from the City on the building’s finances? Aren’t they supposed to be done quarterly? First Q can’t be pretty and second looks rough also. Any staff reductions like the Peoria Civic Center or are we still paying 2 FT managers with one operating the Peoria Hockey team ? I think that is most blatant taxpayer waste going on in front of the taxpayers eyes. IMO
