Did aliens take over the Pantagraph?

By:  Diane Benjamin

Is Halloween early this year?  The bird-cage liner appears to be playing trick-or-treat with today’s editorial.

Too bad it wasn’t written BEFORE both Bloomington and Normal passed the 1% Sales tax increase.  Better-late-then-never doesn’t really work since neither city is now going to give the money back.

I RARELY link to one of their stories, but maybe you should read this one.  Somebody with common sense wrote it:  http://www.pantagraph.com/news/opinion/editorial/editorial-tighten-belt-outline-goals-before-tax-hike/article_7341cfbc-a1aa-5fc2-b296-1944c16db881.html

Is the City of Bloomington no longer on speed dial Pantagraph?  I seriously doubt you got permission to print this one.  We are more used to editorials that could have been written BY the City.

Losing too many readers?  Turning over a new leaf?  Going to start being a watchdog for citizens instead of government’s lap dog?

This is really scary!  So far today I’ve agreed with Tari and the Pantagraph.

Maybe I should go back to bed, take a short nap.  Maybe life will be back to normal when I wake up.

Or, maybe the bird-cage liner woke up?  Next time I hope they are ahead of the story!

Maybe there is a full moon.  That’s it!  Has to be.

Nope – the next one is October 27th.

Okay, I figured it out.

This can only mean the CUBS are going to win the World Series!

  1. I think the Pantagraph still coordinated the timing of this article with the city of Bloomington. Clearly any responsible informed media would have written this article before the vote and not after the fact.

    1. Spot on Jeff. Also, this editorial does not oppose the tax increase, they’re just questioning spending priorities of Normal and Bloomington.

  2. Every now and again, I think I see the bird cage liner do stories like this. I would guess it to be that once in awhile they need to look like they advocate for real common sense so they can hold some credibility. I would use the term, controlled opposition to explain it this alien phenomenon. As far as the money is concerned I will guess it to become available to help implement the Comprehensive Plan, build new libraries that aren’t needed, etc.
