Pre-Covid: Downtown Bloomington

By: Diane Benjamin

I couldn’t find what I was looking for on the Bloomington website, not surprising – it’s a BAD website.

Instead, I found something I wasn’t looking for! https://www.cityblm.org/home/showpublisheddocument/26749/637628729553900000

The people who have believed for years that just millions more will get people downtown did a study. Keep in mind, the COVID shutdowns started in March-April 2020. The map below was done before (February 2020) small businesses were deemed non-essential. The map might look different now.

The yellow is partial vacant commercial space, the red is fully vacant. The only development I’m aware of is Connect Transit turning the old Pantagraph site into a transfer station. (tax dollars)

It will be easier to read by clicking the link. This is on page 8 of the study:

What is Bloomington doing about it? Stay tuned.
