UPDATE: Is the Bloomington Library Safe for Kids?

See another book the library had on display on May below. H/t a reader.

Maybe this is why Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe refused to consider appointing new people to the Library Board who applied, he reappointed Renner’s people instead.

See this 2019 story about a conference some library personnel attended: https://blnnews.com/2019/07/20/drag-queens-at-the-library/

This national conference urged librarians to “sneak” drag queens by parents.

Remember this 2021 story about the library having porn books by the Children’s section? https://www.cities929.com/2021/10/20/porn-and-community-tensions-at-bloomington-public-library/

Yesterday a reader took her child to the library. This book was on display when entering the Children’s section:

Description: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58950829-if-you-re-a-drag-queen-and-you-know-it

Strike a pose. Blow a kiss. Mouth the words. A fun, sing-along book with a drag twist that encourage kids to embrace all the playfulness of drag culture written by a founding member of Drag Queen Story Hour.

If you’re a drag queen and you know it, let it show by winking, shaking your bum, laughing real big, twirling around, and more! Join a cast of fabulous drag queens as you sing along to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It” in this playful celebration of expressing your brightest and boldest self.

Why is the library sexualizing kids?

Because the schools are?

Drag Queens are created by adults for adults. Leave the kids alone!

Let kids be kids.

Update:

The parent who sent these pics to me refuses to ever take her kids there again.

Kids aren’t capable of defining their gender. More sexualizing kids to create confusion:

  1. Someone should take all the “Drag Queens” somewhere & use them for target practice!!!!!!!! 👍 This gay crap is out of hand!!

    Ron

  2. Lotsa creeps can easily and quicky publish books and making money. Anyone can
Public entities (libraries and schools) are part of the problem. Folks need to stop the nonsense and influencing children. It’s grooming regardless of what they all procalim.

Kinda creepy. If you say a thing they blame you for censorship or lack of freedom of speech or not being inclusive or diverse.

Our politicians just play along and continue to take money and get paid well for not addressing this. They are a problem as well.

    Where are they? $$$

  3. When our kids turned 5, it was a big day to go to the library to get their own library card. We used to participate in the Children’s Reading Program every summer. Throughout the year they regularly checked out books and returned then. Now, libraries are no longer safe for children. Public schools are no longer safe for children. Thankfully there are other resources to buy books for children that don’t include the library. Homeschooling or private school is more important than ever before. It is up to parents to protect their children

  4. You’re nuts. Kids have danced, sung and dressed up and even thrown kisses from time immemorial. It has nothing to do with sexualization of children.

Absolutely NO one is forcing anyone to check out any of those books. No one. Apparently it’s you who want no one else to check those books out. This is pearl clutching at it’s worse. If everyone here wants to be a prude over children’s books that your problem. The rest of us will read on any book my child picks out.

    1. That’s scary. “Its just a book” – The “literary books” are anything but innocent child fun. For anyone to say that, promote or downplay the influce being thrown in kids faces is Nuts- perhaps. That analolgy is very off.

  5. Did this mom find a new place for those books? Perhaps behind the least used books. It’s bad enough we have respected merchants fully supporting drag story time and a church that promotes drag services. Now this stuff is readily available for our kids to peruse.
