Charles Sila passed the afternoon of Friday February 24 at Carle Bromenn. He was a loving father and husband, navy veteran, and long-time business owner and pubic servant.
Charles is survived by his wife Nadine, children Monica (Brian) Irwin and Karl Sila, brother Lee (Heidi) Sila, a niece and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents Louis J and Marie L (Schumacher) Sila, and sister Rose Marie Sila (Ro).
After his military service, he was active in local veterans organizations including AmVets and the American Legion with his father Louis. He was also a member of the Bloomington Masonic Lodge and of Mensa.
Chuck graduated from NCHS and from ISU, and after receiving his CPA certification started what was to later become Sila Accounting in 1978.
He was active in the local community. Charles was active in the formation of Project Oz and was an early board member. He also served 20 years on the Normal Public Library board; he was particularly proud of fact that the board promptly rescinded the temporary tax increase that enabled the 1990s expansion project, and serving part of his tenure with his son Karl also on the board. He was active in the local Republican, then later Libertarian, parties and was the Libertarian candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1998. He was also active in the recent voters’ rights initiatives in Normal.
Visitation will be 10:30-Noon Wednesday March 1st at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington with services to follow. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to VoteForKarl.org.

Certainly unconventional, but Dad was a true public servant, not a politician like most office holders. The family agreed he would approve, as it’s a way for him to further his legacy of public service.
If you feel it’s inappropriate, the Normal Public Library Foundation is another good cause he would appreciate receiving donations.
RIP Mr. Sila. I really appreciate what the Sila family has done here locally to support shining a light into things in the Town of Normal. Thank you for your service, sir, and God speed!
