Why is local unemployment up?

By: Diane Benjamin

The below is from the downloaded document on this website: https://ides.illinois.gov/newsroom/2023/sept/jobs-up-in-most-metro-areas-in-august.html

Bloomington means Bloomington-Normal. Almost every metro is showing higher unemployment now than 1 year ago.

If you download the document you will see the number of jobs is higher.

More jobs but more unemployment. Makes perfect sense.

  1. Maybe the hiring of any recent graduate of our education system is now considered a negative benefit to a company?

Why hire workers that you have to put more energy into than you get out of?
Why hire workers that think it is more important to be a social activist bent on system demolition rather than a being a positive corporate asset?
Why hire workers with a victim mentality that will push the company into protracted legal battles when someone rolls their eyes at them?
Why hire someone that believes that a company must equitably discriminate to advance their career?

  2. IDES needs to do their jobs and deny benefits to more people as most employers are understaffed. Lots of jobs are available. No doubt the Prickster regime is encouraging continued unnecessary spending to further devalue the dollar and bring more hardship to those he is supposed to represent. Although, it should be painfully clear that betrayal is a part of his DNA.

  3. The reason the unemployment is up is caused by the methodology the government uses to calculate unemployment. The labor force is defined defined as those employed and those looking for employment. When businesses are increasing employment, the wage rate increases that incentivizes people who are not working are are not looking for a job, to begin to look for a job. These people who were not working and not looking for a job were not counted unemployed. Once a person who is not working begins to look for work, then they are counted as unemployed. As a result employment and unemployment increase at the same time.

  4. I find this super interesting. I work at ISU. I have several student workers in my office that are also looking for part-time work off campus. These young ladies are hard workers and smart. They have applied at several places and are either getting turned down or told that their schedules are just not open enough. They are looking for nights and weekends. They have applied at no less than 6 places. So are some employers creating some of this as well?
