The unanimous vote yesterday to reject a Special Use Permit for One Earth Sequestration LLC is only temporary.
See Board member Metzker’s comment 6:00. She stated the Public Commentors would be ignored by the Board because approval of the permit happened at the Zoning Board of Appeals. Evidently your elected officials aren’t allowed to make decisions themselves. The Zoning Board of Appeals is not elected. The unelected ZBA board made a decision, the County Board shouldn’t be hogtied by it. One commenter stated the ZBA did not allow testimony it deemed inappropriate. Phil Dick has chaired the ZBA for a long time. He needs to retire.

The NASA article states CO2 has increased 45% since the beginning of the Industrial Age. That was around 150 years ago in this country. Even though 45% sounds like a lot it isn’t. Right now CO2 is .04% percent of the atmosphere. All the coal, gasoline, natural gas, etc used for cheap energy did little to endanger the atmosphere. The assault on fossil fuels is an assault on affordable energy. Capturing CO2 and burying it is mental illness.
The Chair of the Land Use and Development Committee detailed why it should not be approved. The ZBA should never have approved the permit because the company couldn’t produce safety plans. They can apply again in the future when they meet the requirements Chair Lea Cline outlined, just hit play. The Board should ban all CO2 sequestration in McLean County before they do.
Your repeated comments that CO2 is well less than 1% aren’t really relevant – For example, there are plenty of poisons where an eyelash-worth can kill a person. Completely correct on everything else, tho – CO2 sequestration isn’t a solution looking for a problem, it’s looking to Create a problem.
Try this: Banks continue to loan money for ocean side properties. If the oceans were really rising, they wouldn’t.
Also, CO2 isn’t a poison. It’s plant food except when clowns collect massive amounts of it and fail to contain it.
The board’s explanation on 24 hour public notice to sign up for speaking doesn’t pass the sniff test. It’s a government body. Sunshine laws apply. Therefore, it must follow said laws. Unless it’s a “special” session, the agenda has “public comments” no notice can be applied to the public for 1st amendment speech. Period. Even the act of requiring someone to “sign in” is restrictive, state name, address, etc. Simply state, “exempt” or “Citizen @ USA”.
I’m shocked to learn this 24 hour rule has been a “rule”.
It won’t be for long.
This 24 hour rule is just like the “no cellphone/camera” rule/dictate in the courthouse for private citizens. But lawyers get exemptions. When the Illinois Supreme Court ruled against that restriction, McLean Counties Chief Justice ignored it and kept the prohibition, citing safety concerns. Cook County was able to cope as well as everyone else.
But this was before the new Sheriff, I’ll have to check the latest guidelines/policies/rules set by the County Chief Justice.
I am glad that they denied the sequestration, at least for now. The goal will be to make it an unfriendly business environment, using rules and regulations (green EPA Regulations already in place) for the sequestration companies to want to be here in McLean County.
I don’t want a CO2 catastrophe to release a million tons into the atmosphere and float (CO2 is a heavy gas that dissipates slowly in the wind) in an invisible cloud over Evans Junior High and suffocate an entire school full of children.

Look up “jungle lake burps in the Amazon killing entire tribe” for more about CO2 poisoning and its lethality or NASA’s research in scrubbing CO2 and how dangerous it is to astronauts. NASA’s uses a Lithium scrubbers (another pollutant) to remove CO2 from the ISS air and replaces the cartridges in the scrubbers when they reach full capacity. Just as does the US Navy’s submarine fleet which uses a Sodium Hydroxide and Calcium Hydroxide scrubbing system instead to clean the CO2. Which they can simply recycle (simply heat up the material) and reuse, releasing the CO2 into tanks used as ballast. Thereby creating an almost infinite supply of fresh air.
The State of Illinois should be the one who approves and regulates C02 Carbon Capture infrastructure.
It shouldn’t be up to local MAGA republican politicians to say no to the best way for rural residents to fight climate change .
With The catastrophic effects of Climate Change are nearly upon our planet CO2 storage is badly needed.
I hope the state overrules this terrible decision and allows the piping and underground storage of climate changing CO2 before it’s too late.
Hilarious. There are no catastrophic effects, just predictions that have been false since at least the 70’s. You must have missed all those private jets at the latest wealth stealing summit.
“Blue Wave Dem” is quite befuddled in several ways it seems so I’m sure they haven’t seen or heard anything about the private jets and all the other expensive pomp that goes with the “climate change summits”, The WEF and all of their other little parties they attend, best to just let the poor dear stew in his/her delusions, for now…
