See the details of the jobs here – Bloomington is hiring 15 people. (For a new fire station?)
I don’t think the City meant to imply after hired you can live anywhere in Illinois. Did they mean no one outside of Illinois can apply?
Why go to college when No Experience Is Necessary to earn $67,500 a year and then retire early with a pension? Risking your life is required however, that isn’t in the job description. You do have to be progressive. (communist?)
Brought to you by: We aren’t spending our money. We spend yours.
Normal just relocates their fire stations to where the need is. Bloomington builds new, the last one on Six Point Road is a $5+ million storage shed now.
The only question about the new fire station will be how close they build to Normal’s new station at Hershey and Shepard.

A $67K job with no experience? I know from experience that you will probably end up hiring someone that doesn’t care about the job, just the money. They will end up not lasting very long in such a position and/or being a poor employee.
People that have worked to get experienced and are inspired to work to protect the community will give up that dream. We are dismantling public service.

Clearly you don’t know the time and effort it takes to get through the required training and certifications required for full time employment.
Hiring like this controls the pipeline of new hires and doesn’t make the department rely on the nationally declining rates of paramedic certifications.
These new hires will be trained to the national certification levels, required to be certified, and trained by current employees in house.
The cops are union too but you never seem to have a problem with their pay, benefits, or pensions.
They aren’t advertised, this was
Where in this advertisement or job description does it spell out explicitly that applicants “do have to be progressive? (communist?)”? Oh wait, I checked — it doesn’t.

Comedy hour: RIF. “Progressive” is right there.
Right, but POLITICALLY progressive or progressive in FF best practices and employment best practices? Most likely, the latter! There’s an inference here being made that that word means you have to be a “Democrat” or that it has a political connotation. If that were actually the case, the City would clearly be opening itself up to litigation. I think it’s an unfair assumption, one that relies on just outrage bait with that one word (“progressive”) to say they only want “communist” firefighters.
if you want to conflate progressive with democrat when I said communist, that’s on you.
