It is illegal to feed birds in downtown Bloomington

By: Diane Benjamin

I’ve seen this one listed on Silly Law websites for years, I finally took the time to see if it is real.

It is:

The top highlight is Chestnut, the bottom is Oakland.

Right below the bird feeding law is a barking dog law. Since laws are merely suggestions, good luck getting this one enforced. The fine ranges from $50 to $500:

  1. What if my bird is an African Parrot is an Illegal alien, or my dog is a MEXICAN Chihuahua, Will they get Asylum? (the protection granted by a nation to someone who has left their native country as a political refugee.)

  2. I dealt with a neighbor that had two dogs that were kept in a back yard kennel and they barked 24-7. I talked to several police officers about it and was told there is no law against a dog barking. The officers said they could go talk to the owner but nothing really they could do. The problem was solved when the neigbor finally moved away.

  3. It’s not a silly law. If people were feeding birds in downtown Bloomington, everyone would be complaining about all the bird shit in downtown Bloomington.

  4. Just like if you feed all the illegals you will soon have them living off the government all over the place

  5. The other day I saw some idiot feeding the geese and squirrels in the middle of the road in Miller Park. Cars had to wait until they finished and the geese left.
