Media Literacy is required teaching in Illinois High Schools

NPR story: https://www.npr.org/2022/09/14/1122895362/illinois-now-requires-media-literacy-instruction-in-its-high-school-curriculum

Parents have a problem because “media literacy” depends on who constructs the curriculum and who teaches it. Anybody think “media literacy” includes all sides of issues?

If you need proof see this story written by a Normal Community senior for the school paper: https://nchsinkspot.com/uncategorized/2023/11/14/floridas-threats-to-ap-psychology-should-scare-you-but-dont-let-them-psych-you-out/

The story has many errors, I will just point out the most glaring:

The Parental Rights in Education Act was passed to Florida to protect kids in Kindergarten through THIRD grade, not 8th grade, from being sexualized. It provides parents the right to know what is being taught to their little kids. The writer must have used sources who dubbed this the “don’t say gay” bill even though gay is never mentioned in the bill.

See what the bill is actually about: https://www.flgov.com/2022/03/28/governor-ron-desantis-signs-historic-bill-to-protect-parental-rights-in-education/

It is not a stretch to believe everything else this student wrote is devoid of facts. The AP Psychology claims are hilarious. Left leaning media of course reported the same thing this student did. She missed the opposite view reporting. Media Literacy? Not a chance.

Teaching media literacy in Unit 5 depends completely on the will of the teacher. What is actually happening is legal censorship by staff. If you have high school kids ask them what “media literacy” they have been taught. Schools/teachers reinforce their beliefs, not critical thinking.

Since Ron DeSantis was overwhelmingly voted a second term, Florida parents approve of banning schools and teachers from sexualizing their little kids. It will never happen in blue Illinois. That’s why your kids are in danger in public schools.

I don’t know what year this is from, but the screenshot from the Unit 5 website shows another teacher using only far left sources. This is commonly known as indoctrination.

  1. I’ve told my adult children to talk to their kids about not accepting everything teachers say or expose their kids to as necessarily correct. They should have a healthy suspicion of teachers. Not to the point of disrespect, because the teaching *profession* should be respected. But anything related to politics or sex or gender should be relayed to the parents for discussion.

Kind of along these lines – It would be good if the churches had detailed understanding about what the DEI, CRT, SEL, CSE ideologies are teaching in our local schools. They could then make it a point to emphasize what the Biblical truths are that refute the public education’s religion that is being taught.

Concerning the Transgender agenda – a great resource is Church Transgender Response Guide
https://childparentrights.org/church-transgender-response-guide/ I’ve passed copies along to some church staff members.
