We are witnessing the destruction of McLean County at the hands of progressive socialists. Things that matter to citizens don’t matter to government. I have the roads survey done, results probably tomorrow.
Last night the Bloomington City Council heard two presentations. One was from the McLean County Regional Planning Commission about the “housing crisis”. One presenter stated the private sector can’t solve the problem so government has to (paraphrased). Think Cabrini Green. The people it was built for had no respect for public property because it was handed to them. Free stuff is disposable because there is always more.
You Will Own Nothing and Be Happy should be the slogan of the MCRPC presenters. Obviously there are too many single family homes (that build generational wealth) that are no longer affordable so apartments are needed. Evidently there are developers waiting for a downtown TIF so they can build apartments there. The socialist aldermen want to make sure that housing is affordable. (Section 8) It’s also vote buying because poor people have to vote for the people who handed them stuff to keep getting the stuff. They stay poor to keep from losing the handouts.
Lacking any understanding of economics, socialists don’t realize ANY additional apartments affect the price of all apartments. Rents are high because there are too many renters and not enough supply. I wonder what impact not allowing landlords to collect rent had on this during COVID? Why would anyone want to own rental property when government can tell tenants not to pay without any consequences?
The free markets always self correct when government doesn’t intervene. This council has no plans to NOT intervene. That will make the housing problems worse.

While you live where the roads are despicable, your government will destroy a good road for their multi-decade fantasy for downtown. Congrats. Of course grants were mentioned since they aren’t local dollars. 🙄
The MCRPC thinks commuters want to live in Bloomington-Normal. They are delusional. Not everybody wants to move just for a job that may or may not be long term. My husband commuted for years, moving was never considered.

They are moving from chicago to bn and being given jobs paid for by taxpayers. City of Bloomington, Post Office, U5, D87, etc. The tax money they confiscate from us pays the obscenely high salaries of government employees. Whether or not they are qualified is immaterial.
…while long time local citizens and taxpayers are only allowed minimum wage (zero be benefits) or no jobs in county or state.
Unless went to ISU, Heartland or IWU or U of I (money funnel nepotistic life never ends) ..
blah blah … now get back to your minimum payement/wage cage and take a big swig of Copium™️ .. you’ve earned it and you need it.
Let’s make minimum wage $50 an hour so everything gets done by machines. Like inflation?
I have observed the road situation as well. They tear up good roads over and over while other roads don’t get touched. Makes it look like they are doing something when in reality it’s a smoke screen for something else. Every other week it seems they are tearing up a section on Wylie Dr. and that’s been going on for at least 2 years. What are they fixing that they have to keep tearing up small sections?
