An EXTERNAL AUDITOR does not do what an elected auditor does.
External Auditors check a few transactions and make sure all the numbers are in the right columns.
An elected auditor checks every transaction against what is budgeted.
The problem has always been THIS auditor. She has no or few staff – most transferred to the Treasurer’s office because they don’t want to work for her.
Elections matter, republicans didn’t bother to get facts before voting for her. I don’t think she even campaigned the last time she was elected.
Harsh? Yes, the truth hurts.
If you haven’t heard, the County Board voted last night to but a referendum on the ballot to eliminate the Auditor’s office.

Check out the memo from administration. Out of the 11 duties the elected auditor is statutorily required to do, she does NONE of them, and it’s not for lack of staff. Its because she isn’t accountable to anyone but the voters and the voters don’t often get to see a memo like the one provided to County Board this week from the administrator that outlines how she isn’t doing her job and never really has. So, she can make her nearly 6 figure salary off the tax payers every year and not even go into the office, not do her job, and the only thing admin can do is hire other people that will do the jobs or transfer the duties to other employees and department heads who DO have to answer to someone rather than an elected official. The tax payers may as well consider her salary a welfare benefit.
Well…why we are complaining about this…let’s put the Bloomington Election Commission on the ballot and get rid of them. Save money save money.
Since county taxpayers fund it they should
Just my two cents. Interesting that they decided to get rid of the Recorder job, when he was a “Republican.” Now they want to get rid of the Auditor job when she is a “Republican.” If both of these jobs had been held by “democrats” I don’t think they’d want to eliminate these 2 ELECTED positions. They would happily let the grift continue. So instead they eliminate two positions that the people VOTE for, and install whoever they want to do these jobs. Just looks like the continued Consolidation of Power by the Unelected Administrative State.
every republican on the board voted to put the referendum on the ballot as well, not just the democrats.
RINO’s
Get rid of auditing, one less person to check the numbers. One less person to answer to. Makes it easier to get ideologies passed.
Maybe shes trying question to stop the blatant endless money funnel and NFP and department scams $- maybe not laziness at all
Needed services need their funding for sure
Push back finally – she’s a Republican I heard
Doubt people would say anything if a Dem
Lotsa political games on both parties sides
Eliminating Election Commission makes sense but nothing ever gets done
Big money and data grab/exploit galore in McLean Co
She plays games.
True Republicans in BN are not well received.
My question is this, when both Geoff and Elizabeth agree Im worried. Also, why would Geoff want to eliminate a position entirely versus the individual being replaced? Other the. The Savings of salary for taxpayers, the auditor or comptroller ensures that the transactions are appropriate and have been approved by the board. However, having a responsible individual is vital.
