Bloomington wants to solve the local “housing crisis”. Since they can’t lower interest they can’t solve it.
That isn’t going to stop them from trying:

People who work at Rivian but don’t live within the boundaries of Bloomington-Normal don’t necessarily want to move here. If ridiculous housing shortage numbers are spewed again tonight this is why. The EDC really hates people collecting a Rivian paycheck and spending it outside of local borders. If Rivian ever quits losing tens of thousands of dollars on every vehicle they sell, that might change their mind. Job security drives housing needs, Rivian doesn’t provide that yet.
Locals wanting to just move to a bigger house can’t because of interest rates. This is why the number of homes for sale is staying low. Markets always correct themselves eventually. Government caused the problem, interfering won’t solve it. The eventually crash from government interfering will be worse than today.
One way they can solve housing: Act like socialists. People are continuing to flee Illinois. Interfering in free markets is a sure-fire way to make more housing available.
This item is also on the agenda:

Details for why this is on the agenda are never revealed in advance, but maybe this is a clue that the City doesn’t want to do massive bulk pickups twice a year anymore:

Maybe they want residents to haul their own junk to the Convenience Center that will be relocated to the Owens property the City just acquired. The changes to Chapter 36 should be fun, the City should want “curb shoppers” since they decrease what the City has to dump and they promote recycling.
This meeting just might be fun!
All meetings can be watched Live or archived on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cityofbloomingtonil
Meetings are supposed to start at 6:00 pm but are usually a few minutes late.

This a a basic city service that should be provided to citizen taxpayers.
CALL your Alderperson and advise the you appreciate the bulk pick up service and want it to continue.
WATCH how you Alderperson votes on bulk waste pick up. If they vote to curtail or eliminate this service they flat out do not care about you and they do not deserve your vote in the upcoming city election.
Normal picks up bulk whenever it’s put out
