FOIA fail

By: Diane Benjamin

I FOIA’s 2 things from the City of Bloomington:

  1. Communication to/from the council concerning the purchase of the Owens property
  2. The letter of intent Tim Gleason signed with the realtor in Decatur

The City can’t find Gleason’s letter, they want another 5 days:

Part 2 of your request, which includes “Copy of Gleason’s Letter of Intent to work with Vieweg Real Estate”, requires additional time to complete a thorough department search. I have attached a notice of extension to this email, which gives the City of Bloomington an additional 5 days to complete your request.

Part 1 is secret information you don’t have a right to know because the City claims it’s exempt. There was very little written communication. Below is the file I received with almost everything redacted. Even though the Council voted to purchase the property they want to keep something a secret.

Recap:

  1. Gleason didn’t attempt to negotiate a lower commision for the realtor
  2. Gleason picked the Decatur realtor
  3. Gleason sent that realtor $271,250.

Maybe since Gleason knew he was moving there he decided to redistribute your money to Decatur. The first email is dated April 5 from Jeff Jurgens. The subject line says: “Legislative Projects”. Is Bloomington trying to get other people to pay for what they want? REDACTED!

  1. Donna Bolen has been a huge disappointment on Council. She should go back to Chicago.

  2. Of course they can’t find documents. Did you seriously think that they would toss buddy pal Gleason under the bus? Besides I think the council knew what was happening and they dare not expose the facts.
