Blame the Trust Act when Federal Funds disappear

By: Diane Benjamin

After canceling meetings and not holding one since last November, Bloomington’s Welcoming America Commission is scheduled to meet March 17th. See the agenda here: https://granicus_production_attachments.s3.amazonaws.com/cityblm/03cef3b70a67f5a84ee7d2d354dfc60a0.pdf

The Bloomington Council passed a Welcoming City ordinance to prevent radicals from passing sanctuary city status.

That doesn’t matter since Illinois is a Sanctuary State thanks to the ruling party. The Illinois Trust Act prevents law enforcement from holding alien criminals for ICE : https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/illinois-ice-guidance-law-enforcement-response

AI version of the differences between Sanctuary and Welcoming – since Bloomington is in Illinois this is immaterial:

I doubt the loss of federal funds will force Illinois to realize most citizens don’t want criminals, legal or illegal, roaming the streets.

It will be fun to see their logic however.

Bloomington residents might want to read the Commission agenda. Being in Illinois and pretending you aren’t in a Sanctuary State seems like a waste of money to me. You?

  1. It doesn’t matter what the people want, nor does it matter about the welfare of immigrants, regardless status. It’s ALL about power! The more residents in a state the more representation and money the state gets. Since no longer can the census counters ask legal status, all the illegal aliens count. Blue states are losing taxpayers so they need bodies to maintain their power in the House of Representatives.

  2. It’s good to be friendly to anyone but some disclaimers might be helpful too.

    For example.
You are welcome here, but we have a housing shortage and don’t appreciate tent cities and we don’t imagine you would want to live in a tent. Just so you know, we are sorry but there are no places here to live at the moment.
We’d love to visit with you, but our food pantries are already overburdened so you might not have access to any free food.
We have a relatively safe community, and our police will help ICE when it comes to anyone that is a threat to safety.
Nice to see you but our mayor isn’t Brandon Johnston, and our community doesn’t have resources that can be obtained by decree.

It is sad to us that you have been enticed to risk your lives and leave your homes to come here because of promises a few people made that we can’t keep. For that we are truly sorry.

  3. Both are illegal. Under the Constitution, States are prohibited from enacting laws contrary to Federal law.

  4. Maybe ole’ jelly belly himself will become the 5th IL Governor to go to prison. Pray!
