Bloomington allows disregard for City Code

By: Diane Benjamin

Tonight’s agenda: 4/4/2025

The agenda omits penalties for Cody Hendricks and Jenna Kearns’ flagrant City Code violations (details: https://blnnews.com/2025/03/25/cody-hendricks-chief-cheater/). In two years, Bloomington’s consolidated elections will become fully partisan due to this lack of accountability. Worse, residents will question why they must follow City Code when elected officials don’t. This ‘rules for thee but not for me’ attitude invites chaos. Why obey laws if Hendricks and Kearns don’t?

Mayor Mwilambwe is stacking the Board and Commissions before he is replaced May 1st as mayor: Appointments

Donna Boelen, the former mayor Pro Tem, resigned in December. That means Bloomington hasn’t had one for months. Why is Mboka appointing a replacement tonight instead of letting the new Mayor appoint a person he thinks is capable?

I’m predicting a contentious vote on this matter. Seniority on the Council doesn’t qualify a person to represent the City.

There are two redevelopment agreements to expand housing. Approving next year’s budget is also on the agenda. It could be a long meeting. Lots of Proclamations and Recognitions too.
