A reader with a dash cam sent me the video below. (I really need one!)
The location is 6 Points Road, where a train is blocking traffic going straight. A bus is positioned in front of the vehicle with the dash cam. The bus behind it crosses the double yellow line to turn left before the tracks.
Watch the left side of the video. A vehicle on the intersecting road has to back up to allow the bus to complete its turn.
This incident occurred yesterday at 2:40 p.m. Crossing a double yellow line to pass stopped vehicles is both illegal and dangerous. After the bus turns, you can see “First Student” written on its side. The bus number is clearly visible.
Illinois Law: Per the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/11-705), crossing a double yellow line to pass vehicles is illegal unless explicitly permitted (e.g., for emergency vehicles with sirens). The rule prohibits passing on a road with a double yellow line, as it indicates a no-passing zone due to safety risks (e.g., limited visibility, oncoming traffic).

Breakin’ the law! Breakin’ the law!
lol who tf cares? This is the hill you want to die on? If he/she goes that direction for their regular route, let them do it….no sense in waiting 20 minutes on a train just so you can move up to make your turn. Especially if youre on a schedule…..guarantee all of us have done something similar at some point. This is the type of thing where if the driver DIDNT do it….you would be posting a story about “woke school bus driver holds kids hostage on bus, not getting them home on time”
🤦♀️
First Student is used by Unit 5.
FS never surprises me. They’re the most professional, organized and on time bus company.
