Proactive Property Maintenance Plan? Heavy Hand of Government?

By: Diane Benjamin

This can easily turn authoritarian since Bloomington has their own Administrative Court. Of course aldermen who break City code aren’t dragged into court, just you peons. You are expected to forget Bloomington practices selective prosecution: https://blnnews.com/2025/03/25/cody-hendricks-chief-cheater/

Staff is going to drive around town looking for violators? Can anyone think of a better way to achieve “positive community revitalization”? Maybe staff will figure that out when they hit enough potholes.

See the 12/3 and 12/10 court dockets below.

How long did those scheduled at 9:30 have to wait? Their time isn’t as valuable as staff’s?

12/10 – everybody is at 8:30. If they don’t show up they are ruled guilty. Merry Christmas. https://www.bloomingtonil.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/28541/639004567990011397

  1. This “new approach” is about CONTROL!!!

The City is not actually helping anyone with their “proactive property maintenance” – I mean I doubt the City will be sending a “maintenance” crew over to do whatever the City deems necessary

And YES – another way to waste people’s time and money! I see some landlords on the list – so more fines, required “maintenance” & wasting time WILL raise rents for tenants, again.

  2. So they have time to police your grass and gutters, but not the roadways? There’s no money to police problem traffic lights? No money or time to police speeding? How about stop signs that are constantly ignored? No?

Government overreach at its very, very finest. Since when is property management and maintenance for private properties government business? This is a nanny state.
