The General Election is November 3rd.
The Primary Election is March 17th. Illinois thinks voters need many weeks to actually vote, so early voting starts February 5th.
State and Federal offices will be contested, local races mostly won’t. (Maybe none) Democrats get to pick Dick Durbin’s ballot replacement. Those who vote Republican get to pick Pritzker’s opponent.
In November voters will have a choice in District 10:

and Matt Steinkoenig.
Quote from Matt’s website:
I’m a graduate of Illinois State University, and for over 30 years, I’ve dedicated my career to serving and supporting others. I spent 10 years at State Farm Insurance, learning the value of responsibility, efficiency, and working with integrity. For the past 20 years, I’ve proudly served as a firefighter with the Normal Fire Department, where I’ve seen firsthand the importance of strong, essential public services delivered with accountability and purpose.
Matt announced his candidacy in October. I’ve held it until now because elections are now more relevant:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Matt Steinkoenig Announces Candidacy for McLean County Board – District 10
McLean County, IL — Today, Matt Steinkoenig proudly announces his candidacy for McLean County Board, District 10, running on a platform of common sense, accountability, and limited government.
“I’m stepping forward because I believe McLean County deserves a government that knows its limits and respects your hard-earned dollars,” said Steinkoenig. “We need leaders who focus on the essential services that keep our communities strong—while finding responsible ways to reduce waste and lower the burden of taxes on families and small businesses.”
A firm believer in grassroots engagement, Steinkoenig plans to run a campaign rooted in conversation, transparency, and community. “This isn’t about politics as usual,” he said. “It’s about listening to the people who live and work here, making government more efficient, and putting decision-making back where it belongs—in the hands of the people.”
Steinkoenig pledges to work toward a smaller, smarter county government that delivers real value without unnecessary spending. “We all work hard for our money. It’s time our local government did the same.”
Matt invites all District 10 residents to join the campaign and be part of the change. The goal, he states is to “Serve all members of this community to the best of my ability. I look forward to working together and helping to find solutions to the problems we all face.”

This is the kind of crap that makes us lose elections. I don’t like Beirne, but he isn’t some tax and spend socialist. He actually works with Republicans and supports law enforcement. I live in a neighborhood with terrible water and Beirne is the only one we see actually trying to do something about it. Steinkoenig says nothing at all in this statement and you link to an incomplete website. What’s the appeal? What’s he going to do differently? We just got rid of Chuck and finally have someone who does something. Maybe people aren’t coming out and voting because we keep putting up candidates that are either insane or don’t do anything.
The insane are the ones that win because Pritzker funds trickle down
