Bloomington tonight – 3/23/26

By: Diane Benjamin

Agenda: https://bloomingtonil.portal.civicclerk.com/event/4114/files/agenda/12519

1)

Guess what’s back?

2)

Since the PUBLIC isn’t paying attention, few if any will show up to speak:

3)

The City of Bloomington will be tracking people using YOUR cell phone data. See 8G. Add that to Flock cameras.

4)

This one should NOT be on the Consent Agenda – 8H:

Everyone involved in this knows what the end goal is, it’s a secret from the rest of us. CIRA has been caught lying before: https://blnnews.com/2018/04/05/faa-cira-and-soccer/

It was never too dangerous to play soccer on the airport property, the FAA wanted only airport development on the property.

The documentation says the State awarded this development a Megasite grant. Secrecy breeds contempt and rumors. If it is data center, should it be a secret? Only if you want electricity rates to skyrocket! That can easily be prevented by requiring they generate their own electricity. Keeping secrets means bad decisions are easy to slide by citizens. #EconomicDevelopment

Regular Agenda:

1)

The first item is changing the development agreement with the developer of the old downtown State Farm building. Nothing says preserving the downtown character and existing businesses like:

2)

The current City website isn’t ADA compliant and aging technology, so the City is going to spend $637,593.25 over 3 years for a new one.

Maybe the new one will actually have a SEARCH tool that works.

  1. Data Centers ram rodded in -citizens and taxpayers and utility customers pay in more ways than one. Lotsa public justified push back (Joliet, Peoria suburbs/rural areas and others being planned in counties and Central Illinois and state too). Other states have had bold public push back and halted a couple (ex. Michigan)

Flock/LPR, surveillance, IP and location, biometric data and tracking and data/cloud is a way to justify this disaster. Data analytics and cyber security and infrastructure projects are basically a data harvest exercise and pyramid scheme. (And taxpayers are the test rats)

Revamping a website for city at that enormous cost to make it ADA. Ridiculous. Sounds like same local and contracts and vendors involved. Easy money.

    Thanks for watching out Diane!!

  2. Is there any evidence besides speculation that this site is being developed for a data center? What organizations have expressed interest in developing in this location?

  3. I looked at the packet for tonight the only thing on there regarding the budget is a memo and the FY27 Fund Balance. Doesn’t really tell us anything specific.

  4. These quiet pay to play projects are country and Central Illinois wide.

They announce it all as “exciting” innovative projects !!! For The Good!!

    It’s exploitive business really.
