My Nomination for Comment of the Year

By: Diane Benjamin

Krystle Able is requiring people attending her April Normal Township meeting to “verify their eligibility to participate”. https://blnnews.com/2026/03/21/krystle-able-uses-township-for-her-agenda/

Meanwhile, the Democrat Party doesn’t want to pass the Save America Act—or just Voter ID—to ensure election integrity.

The comment left overnight:

Do you have to present ID to prove you are a voter in the Township? Or can you just say you are?

Well done JT!

  1. We check your name against the voter rolls. It’s not something I am requiring its the damn statute Diane. I don’t have control over it. Get over yourself.

    1. You are so funny! So even if you live in Normal and pay Township taxes, if you aren’t registered to vote you can’t participate. What if they are registered and didn’t bother voting in local elections?

    2. Diane, I appreciate the compliment. I am just one person of many who question things we hear that do not make sense or present a hypocritical situation.

A few questions I wish we could answer: is Ms. Able advocating to follow law/statute at the township meetings? Being a political officeholder, does Ms. Able support enforcing all laws/statues? What about the laws regarding people coming to the country legally and the importance of people not overstaying Visas and returning home in an orderly fashion?

This reminds me of the people who argue not to build a wall but have physical security around their houses or who argue to allow for sanctuary cities but do not want to house others in their own homes.

  2. Anyone can participate according to the Illinois Open Meetings Act (5 ILCS 120). Only registered voters can vote at the meeting according to 60 ILCS 1/30‑20 — Powers of Electors at Annual Township Meeting.

Able needs to reword her statement – “Voter check in will begin at 6:30 PM to verify your eligibility to participate in this meeting.”

The bigger issue is, can non-citzens in Illinois obtain voter registration by presenting a drivers license and answering the question – Are you a citizen? Y/N
The answer to that is – yes they can. They are the on the voter rolls and will certainly vote to protect their status as an illegal in Illinois. That would mean they should vote for people like Krystal Able.

  3. State statutes determine Township protocol. Only providing your address is required to vote.

  4. And.. we have 3 more years of the Queen’s reign!! I’m hoping when the next Township election comes around, that the people of Normal wake up and vote her and her ilk OUT!

  5. Illinois Law requires people attending Township Annual Meeting show ID that they are registered voters within the township in order to vote on budget or any other items.

  6. SUTA has upheld citizens first amendment rights to “redress their government” speakers are only required to give their address. Our representatives are required by oath to follow Our Constitution. Representatives not following this should be REMOVED from office. It is sad that our representatives have a history of violating our rights, and then NOT being held personally responsible.
