This is video from my dashcam on Locust in Bloomington at the trail crossing. A car stopped in front of me and waves the runners on. The other lane of traffic had no idea of what was going on. No one was hurt but the video sure is scary.
The way the city and town set these crossings up is made for accidents.

choose to never stop at them.
No matter, those signs are a safety hazard!!
Think of all the pedestrian overpasses we could build on the constitution trail instead of that one stupid Koos underpass for $40 million.
I had a similar incident on Mulberry in Normal a while back. I saw a car zooming and weaving behind me as I was stopped so I honked several time to get the car’s attention. I got nasty looks from the pedestrians – I think they thought I was trying to rush them rather than trying to save them.
Bicycle riders like all of us live in a world that will harm us if we don’t anticipate things outside of our immediate surroundings. Call it a lack of common sense ignorance or natural selection. Some people should not ride a bicycle for their own good.
No matter where you live,cyclists, particularly the club variety, are the biggest abusers of traffic laws. Even if they are suppose to stop, you have to be constantly on guard because you can expect them to religiously blow lights and signs or cross in front of you in and outside of crosswalks. Same with some pedestrians but not as frequent. It’s way past time for cyclists sixteen and over to be licensed as well as their contraptions in every state and be considered no different than a person operating a motor vehicle. They are an even larger danger now with the introduction of electric bikes and have a worse cavalier attitude than before.
I followed a guy on an e-bike down Hershey to the intersection with GE Road and he was staring at his phone the whole time. He slowly weaved over into my lane (I was turning left on GE Road) and had no idea was behind him. He looked up just in time to realize he was about to ride into traffic on GE Road and then did a quick turn onto the trail in front of me. Never knew I was there. E-bikes, scooters, etc are the worst right now in my opinion.
