What was learned at the Committee of the Whole meeting:

The State usurped local control over regulating E-Mobility.

A local consortium will develop rules so people don’t have to worry about inconsistent laws anywhere in the County.

E-bikes etc are allowed on Constitution Trail, probably subject to speed limits that no one will enforce.

They are not allowed on sidewalks and must obey all traffic regulations.

Accidents involving E-Mobility have occurred, the police didn’t have a number.

Bloomington does have 13 “bike” officers that can be used but that means less officers on the streets.

The bottom line is: People in America are expected to regulate themselves. A massive police presence should not be required to force compliance or common sense. Most people don’t want to live in a police state – or pay for one.

E-Cig vending machines:

The biggest demand is by vendors trying to place machines in bars.

They are not legal to use indoors.

The Council consensus seemed to be if E-Cigs are sold they must be kept behind the bar.

Something will be brought back to Council in the future.

I can’t say anything stood out worth quoting. At times I wanted to know “Who is On First”.
