Get your Property Tax bill?

By: Diane Benjamin

I got mine today. 🤑

I looked up some random properties to see how bad the tax increases are.

Bloomington:

Net taxable value for 2023 is $55,521, taxes increased $213.28 from last year (Dist 87)

Net taxable value for 2023 is $136,131, taxes increase $382.70 from last year (Unit 5)

Normal:

Net taxable value for 2023 is $54,492, taxes increased $293.58 from last year (Unit 5)

Net taxable value for 2023 is $70,032, taxes increased $405.88 from last year. (Unit 5)

Random house in Dawson Township:

Net taxable value for 2023 is $89,808, taxes increased $616.30 from last year.

Tri-Valley Schools are responsible for $411.67 of that increase.

How is your tax bill?

Obviously you don’t own your house. Try not paying the bill and find out.

  1. 15.13% property tax increase over last year. EAV increase 17.83%. This for a Ward 1 2000 square foot dwelling 45 years old. The street in front of my house remains a POS. Seems that the County should send a tube of KY Lubricant to taxpayers as part of the “give back” that CIRA’s Carl Olson boasts about.

  2. Big tax increase? You have seen NOTHING yet! My Assessor in Randolph Twp. estimates a 10-12% tax multiplier AGAIN for next year. I think he is low. My guess is 15%. No TAX CAPS IN ILLINOIS! The senior freeze has been stuck with a $65k income limitation since 2019. Springfield will not budge on that figure. (Legislators pay increases every year!). When do we have a property tax revolt in Illinois? Jennie Ives mentioned that one has started in the Cook County area. Why not here? My guess is that way too many people have pensions tied to a taxing body: teachers, municipal workers, state workers, judges, etc. They do not like the higher taxes either BUT they will not jeopardize their taxpayer funded pension in any way. In the meantime, dig deeper or join the rest and MOVE OUT OF ILLINOIS!

  3. I just whined on the connect transit post……but I’ll repeat. I’m fortunate enough to have a home in Florida that currently is worth twice that of my Bloomington home yet the tax is HALF the Bloomington tax!! And Florida has no state income tax! It has a governor that locks criminals up. You don’t see any Hamas riots down here! If it wasn’t for grandkids I’d never be back.

    1. Alabama here. My house is worth almost exactly the same as what I had in BLM. My property taxes in AL are 1/5, yes 20%, of what they were in BLM

  4. In the 9 years we have owned this home our taxes have went up over $1500. There is absolutely no reason for that. Our streets and sewer system need upgraded. Our Subdivision gets zero attention from the city.
