He got by with it

By:  Diane Benjamin

The censure approved by the Bloomington City Council Friday night is just a piece of paper.  Citizens demanded that something be done to Tari Renner for his vile comments, so you got a piece of paper.  Nobody knows who wrote it.  If you hadn’t been outraged, the Council would have done nothing.  Tari has a long history of verbally assaulting anyone with opinions different from his.  Even when the attacks are at a Council meeting on video his buddies do nothing.  At least Bloomington (and beyond) knows who he is now.

The censure document has no consequences and no penalties for continuing the same behavior.  Renner’s war on journalism will continue because he hates facts.   There is no feud between us, just a deep hatred by Renner for reporters he can’t control.  I am in his way and will continue to be. Marginalizing opponents is how Renner has operated since becoming mayor.  Expect more attacks since there are no consequences.

Back to Tari’s hateful speech:

What would happen if you posted this:

Tari 2-10-15 (2)

What would happen to me if I had sent this to Tari?

Tari threatened me.  I could file charges against him.  A reader was so worried about my safety at the Friday meeting, he hired a body-guard for me.  I had him on one side and my very tall son on the other.  Security wasn’t needed, but it was a little fun!

Want to know why Illinois is corrupt?  Look no further than the Bloomington City Council.

Since “THEIR GUY” committed a possible crime against a conservative woman, there is nothing to see here – let’s move on.  I hoped Tari would slink away too embarrassed to show his face in public ever again, but he didn’t.  The face of Bloomington has been allowed, if not encouraged, to abuse and denigrate political opponents.  We know who brought vitriol to the Council Tari,  now we have a piece of paper to prove it.

The Council is still lying about the facts.  This is NOT the first attack by Tari.  There was no attack on his son.  There is no feud between us.  Tari’s comments were made because he hates being challenged – it’s called journalism.  Maybe Tari should move to Chicago and run for office.  The Chicago Tribune would rip him to shreds – they actually practice journalism there.  Tari just can’t believe anyone here would do any investigating.

Some aldermen proclaimed Bloomington has made a lot of progress since Renner became mayor.  Here’s a few of his accomplishments:  Tax increases, pot hole filled roads, and a comical garbage policy.  Meanwhile, all the union members got their raises and pensions funded in a way that can’t be done without tax increases.

I strongly urge every citizen to watch the aldermen comments from Friday night.  They begin at 1:03:38.  It will be obvious after watching which aldermen need replaced ASAP.

  1. Diane, I too have worried about your safety. The Bloomington-Normal Left has committed a lot of vandalistic, and a few violent, acts against high profile Conservatives in the Community. It’s in their DNA. Been there.

Take care, be strong, carry on, but protect yourself by ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

      1. Police reports…..sure, though they don’t always reveal the political motivations of the criminals. But when that anonymous letter arrives in your mailbox, telling you why you were targeted……then the picture becomes clear. Leftists=Thugs.

      2. Maggie stated above that the left have comitted “a few violent, acts against high profile Conservatives in the Community.” I was just asking for proof of those incidents.

      3. Maggie can you please post the anonymous letters you’ve received in your mailbox and the police reports connected to them. I’m just trying to validate your claims, something a real journalist does.

  2. I can’t believe how someone like Scott Black got elected.

I listened to his childish like comments, “cool their jets” and such. Please, hold it because the Academy Award show is Sunday and not Friday evening.

Time will tell if the mayor spouts off again. I am almost sure he will be a one term mayor. Let’s hope so.

    1. Here is what a sneak that S. Black is. He was re-elected to the McLean County Board about 1-2 months before the city election that he won. He then quit the county board and took the elected city council position. Then his county board position was appointed. So he bailed on an elected position and let an appointment take over. Pretty sneaky, pretty crappy even though it is legal.

  3. kalf, You reveal you “journalist” credentials, then we will talk. Seriously. But as of now, you might just be one of those Leftist Thugs who wants to come looking for me…..again. No thanks!

    1. I’m not a leftist thug and I’m not out to get you. I just want to keep this community safe for everyone, regardless of political beliefs.

“The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.”

  4. Renner has apparently learned a lot as a poly sci prof. One of the basic “block and tackle” political moves is to get your allies placed in positions of power so that you can strengthen your control on govt. Renner has been able to plant the city council with his allies. Look out if Emily Bourgass wins ward 4.

  5. I believe the council did the right thing with their “rebuke” or “censure” move Friday night. While it did not state consequences on paper, this is something that will follow the mayor into the next election. Honestly, I think at this time it could be laid to rest because action was taken. If it happens again, then it’s time for them to act differently. But, why prolong and re-post it Diane? It’s good to see the full support behind the decision, and I think he’s now on notice of how unhappy the masses are with him. It’s time to change and to give that opportunity. If nothing changes, we’ll have a new mayor in the next election…

    1. Citizens need to know that this isn’t an isolated event. The Council knows it’s not an isolated event. Slightly slapping him with a piece of paper will work temporarily, it’s only a matter of time before he does something worse. With each event he has been escalating the viciousness of the attacks.
