Classless Alderman Hauman

By:  Diane Benjamin

Citizens of Bloomington need to watch Public Comment from tonight’s meeting.  It starts about 5:30.  https://youtu.be/PzTrILJQlLY

Cities 92.9 sent a different representative tonight. He was a must see first speaker.

Since the camera was on the speaker, viewers didn’t see Alderman Hauman get up and leave.  Renner said after the speaker that she had planned to leave if anyone spoke from Cities 92.9.

Speakers only get 3 minutes.  Public comment is where citizens AND those who represent a lot of citizens get to address the Council.  Hauman walked out on speech by a guy representing citizens.  At the end of the meeting Alderman Black asked that public comment be reviewed, another jab at limiting free speech.  Hauman didn’t bother to say why she walked out even during aldermen comments at the end.  So, evidently her little show was just for herself and Renner who obviously knew she was going to do it.  The Council has now reached a new low.  Sitting for 3 minutes listening to speech you don’t like is part of the job of alderman.  Hauman is obviously unfit for the job.

Renner is trying to play the Fistbump episode as a felony.  Since an immediate order of protection wasn’t issued, Renner is playing with the facts.  He claimed Fistbump broke into a secure building.  Since the police were called by Nora and no arrest was made, Tari has failed to support his claims.  His comments also made it clear the City was involved, Nora just didn’t file on her own as claimed.

The camera REALLY needs to show the aldermen during public comment.  Almost all of them never look at the speaker.  They are busy doodling so they look busy.  Wonder why the country is so divided?  Look no farther than your elected representatives.  If you didn’t vote for them, they don’t care about you or your opinions.

The Council must think representatives from Cities 92.9 show up to advertise.  Maybe in part they do, but the message they offer resonates with a LOT of people in town who never had a voice before.  The popularity of Cities 92.9 is growing because they hold government accountable.  Most residents would never speak at a Council meeting, so Cities speaks for them.  The Council hates not controlling the message, so expect more attacks soon.

I used to think Hauman was much more reasonable and smarter than Renner’s other pick, Painter.

Now we know Hauman is just another ideologue who refuses to listen to the opinions of others if she doesn’t approve.  Since Renner thanked her when she returned, they are two of a kind.

Maybe at the next meeting Painter (if she shows up!), Hauman, and Black can all walk out.  Maybe the camera can pan to them next time.  Just like Dukowitz, they choose to deny speech for some.

By the way Tari, you violated the law tonight.  You adjourned the meeting instead of adjourning into Executive Session, then  resuming the meeting before permanently adjourning the Council.  Since laws don’t matter to you, I’m sure you don’t care though.  Since the Attorney General is your fellow Democrat, she won’t bother to do anything about it either.  Illinois is corrupt because of laws that are ignored.  Thanks for proving the point Tari.

Funny how Tari’s policy of not responding to people who speak is always broken by him.  Watch all of the public comment.  Tari was ready to explode by the end.  Judy Stearns spoke eloquently which I’m sure he hated.

Truth hurts and Tari can’t handle the truth.  If you don’t want punched back Tari – don’t throw the first punch.

  1. After the public comment session, what did he say? Something like “,,,I wouldn’t be a decent mayor if I let this kind of stuff happen.” I think that the man is truly delusional.

  2. Having attended and spoken at the city council meeting I can comment on the fact that when it suits the mayor he ignores the rules and tries to change the subject. The council has agreed not to respond or make comments regarding public comment but last night the mayor went on a rant about the Communication Director issue where she did not respond to requests for information and comments by a Cities 92.9 journalist. As expected he not having been there or knowing what actually transpired tried to focus blame on an individual and present what he purported to be facts without allowing the individual involved a change to respond. The council members just sat there instead of calling for a point of order and insisting the mayor stop his comments since they were inappropriate and not allowed. The potted plants just looked wilted.

  3. Marxist ideology makes very clear that bourgeoisie “rules” don’t apply to them and that ANY behaviors are permissible in order to advance the “Cause” Nothing that Tari Renner does–up to and including criminal behavior–should surprise anybody.

  4. Are not the despicable actions of this Napoleonic mayor and the clapping seal city council getting into RICO Act territory?

    1. Perhaps when it comes to the city’s share of the concessions at the Coliseum. Something dirty must be going on there, or else why would they, being CIAM, refuse to disclose the numbers to the public ? Why isn’t David Hales held accountable for this lack of disclosure? Why isn’t he held accountable for CIAM violating the written contract? Is someone’s hand in the cookie jar? A team of forensic auditors (CFE’s) needs to go through all of this with a fine tooth comb, and they need to criminally indict all of those involved in any criminal activity.

  5. There’s a lot here that’s problematic, but perhaps the biggest problem begins at 23: 46 and again 29:23 where the mayor violates the rules for open comment by commenting on what’s happening and specifically responding to those participating in public comment, a direct violation of the public comment ordinance. He’s mean, condescending and out of order. Yes, his open house is an open forum for people to comment, however it’s not the only one. He needs to realize that some people do not want to go toe to toe with him, especially given his demeanor. I personally have taken him up on his offer to speak at the open house. I can tell you firsthand from my own experience that he’s not open to dialogue with you. If you disagree with him as I have, he’ll shoot you down and try to make you feel like a fool for showing up. People have a right to come and speak at the Council meeting free from any repercussions from the mayor or anyone else on Council. This show from the Council is disgraceful. I expect more from my elected representatives.

    1. He wants people at his open house so there is no media and no video. Answers to questions he doesn’t like will not be forthcoming!

      1. Diane, you are exactly right. I have gone just to observe and listen. Some of his talking points are then thrown back to him at the Council meeting. Doesn’t make him happy. The Mayor should be reminded that he was “censured” and to control his behavior at the Council meetings.

      2. Exactly! A typical response of deceit as per Transparency In Name Only (TINO Tari.)
        Tisk, tisk, such a rookie!
