BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) — For one Bloomington High School student, his college decision was made easier with a huge college scholarship.
Walker Burns is a senior, and on Thursday he was honored with a scholarship for $200,000.
The Navy’s ROTC scholarship is only awarded to five students in the Midwest area, and Burns was the only student from Illinois to receive it.
“It just feels really good to be able to do what I want and know how I’m getting there, Burns said, “it just feels awesome to be honored by these people I’ve respected my whole life.”
Burns said he’s waiting to hear back from Georgia Tech University where he hopes to study aerospace engineering and pursue a naval commission, followed by a 4-6 year commitment to the Navy.
