All they got was a long desk?

The Bloomington City Council was back to meeting in the Government Center last night. The Committee of the Whole last week was also back.

Initially the Council was to meet at the BCPA on July 24th and all 3 August meetings. Note the work wasn’t done until the 10/15 meeting. It appears the only change is a big long desk:

If you are worried about skyrocketing property taxes you are right to be concerned. See the Township Assessors report and questions asked at 15:40. All local governments have dollar signs in their eyes because of the increased valuations. The County already has plans to spend more, imagine all of the government units on your tax bill doing the same. Next jump to 44:35 to hear the Public Comment from Jackie Beyer on the same subject. If you miss Dan Brady, he gave a Public Comment before Jackie.

The real fun started when Mollie Ward wanted to table the purchase of gas powered golf carts so an analysis could be completed between gas and electric. Obviously the guys who bid them had done that, but Mollie wanted more.

Facts presented:

  • Gas carts last 10 years, batteries in electric have to be replaced after 5 years
  • No rental revenue happens when the electric carts have to be charged
  • The golf courses make substantial revenue renting the carts
  • Electric were $60,000 more expensive

Mollie lost her bid to table, but she got Dannenberger and Hendricks to vote with her. She was the only NO vote on the purchase.

Just hit play to hear the discussion:
