Remember back when neither Bloomington or Normal had a local Motor Fuel Tax?
Are the roads better since both are now fleecing you at the gas pump?
Mostly what the Local Motor Fuel Tax did was allow both to spend taxes you already pay on items other than roads – and then claim they don’t collect enough to spend more maintaining them.
Ditto with every other fee you didn’t formerly pay, like garbage in Bloomington. It’s a government shell game.
The County wants authority to have their own Motor Fuel Tax. Funny how they aren’t advertising that one!
See this link, the Executive Committee is meeting before tomorrow’s County Board meeting to approve the 2024 Legislative Program. This is a list of what they want Springfield to do: https://mcleancountyil.gov/ArchiveCenter/ViewFile/Item/9979
This is on PDF page 4:

I have a more EQUITABLE solution:
Tax EVs! It’s not that difficult.
Two things that Springfield won’t do:

Another item I’ve heard Chicago gets, downstate doesn’t:

Who you elect to the County Board matters. Do better!
