Too late for Bloomington

By: Diane Benjamin

I didn’t get a chance to watch Bloomington’s Committee of the Whole meeting until yesterday. The City has the same goal they’ve had for decades: Get people downtown. All the empty buildings will never be developed until you comply, so your tax dollars will be “invested” yet again. If at first (or second or third) you don’t succeed, try try again.

If you think government creates prosperity you will love the new downtown. If you know government takes your money and wastes it you can do nothing to stop it. When socialists control the council because very few people bother to vote you get grand schemes you get taxed to pay for. Cue the video to 33:00 for the new streetscape. You can just scroll through the video to see the pics.

There is another public meeting planned, I don’t remember the date (and don’t want to watch it again), I don’t see it on the City calendar. I think it’s in February. Don’t attend to oppose the project, that horse left the barn without you.

There was a presentation before this by Chief Judge Costigan. He gave a summary of what the McLean County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council has been doing the last five years. The Safety Act didn’t have much affect on the jail because this group had already reviewed who was kept in jail and who wasn’t so overcrowding wasn’t an issue.

Proving yet again Mollie Ward’s Safety Commission wasn’t needed, Costigan reported McLean County has significantly less gun violence than surrounding counties. Remember Surena Fish reporting she attended a meeting of Mollie’s group and they were talking about doing what the PSCRB already does? https://blnnews.com/2024/01/09/bloomington-meeting-8-minutes-52-seconds/

Just hit play to see Ward face reality, her Safety Commission is useless. Apparently she didn’t know the MCCJC exists even though Alderman Nick Becker has reported on them at numerous meetings.

  1. When we went to Bloomington this last summer to visit our family and friends I said to my wife let’s drive down our old neighborhood the 800 block of East Jefferson and when we did we were shocked at just how bad it has gotten! The street was not even safe to drive on it was so bad I don’t know who the Ward 4 Alderman is but they certainly could care less about it our once great Alderman Judy Stearns would be shocked! We sold our house the middle of 2019 and relocated to the Myrtle Beach ⛱️ South Carolina area bought a brand new home in a rural community and we have great neighbors nothing like what we had to contend with on a daily basis calling Police and City with problems after problems no felons or low life thugs with loud obnoxious music in our neighborhood!!! 🤙

  2. After seeing Mollie Ward preach her political beliefs while wearing a priests collar and thru her lens of boomer white privilege , it is very clear she needs some kind of inner healing or therapy. Her self loathing and guilt are clouding her ability to represent her constituents.

The way she mixes her theology and progressive political agenda is unseemly. and biased. and blasphemous.

    1. Ward’s degree of divinity is a joke. She got it through some “drive through” school and not a full fledged divinity curriculum. She’s as much of a legit minister as I am a nuclear physicist. All for show to give her leftist street creds. Phoney like most of her circle.

  3. Watching this presentation, it feels to me like it’s a solution looking for a problem. Nothing shown would lead me to believe that more people will come to downtown if you paint bright new strips on main street and build more areas that people can mill around in a warm sunny day.

I don’t think the council members are convinced this is a good idea, they just aren’t brave enough to say – Shut it down.

  4. Judge Costigan is yet another democrat who deceitfully runs as a Republican. I would think this dishonesty would bother him, but apparently the ends justify the means. Regardless of his claims about crime, there is more crime in McLean County and in surrounding counties than there was years ago. Everything started to changed dramatically in the early 90’s. So whether it’s him or someone else trying to gaslight us into believing crime is down, they are lying. They’re trying to convince us what we know, see, and here isn’t true. Push back and tell them you know the truth regardless of their lies.

  5. Everyone thinks if a Sheriffs dept or elite RINO “PAC” backs your a real Republican $$$ and willsave our localities fairly.

    wake up
