2 Good Public Comments at Bloomington Council meeting

By: Diane Benjamin

The Council met yesterday afternoon after canceling Monday night’s meeting due to ice. It was short even with 3 Public Comments. Just hit play below to hear the first two.

The new hockey owners made a brief presentation with slides that aren’t on video. The person who films at night usually switches the view so people on line can see the slides too, whoever filmed this one didn’t.

Lots of people aren’t confident hockey will ever work here given the past history. These guys are investing millions and they claimed to have sold 200 season passes for home games since the announcement. I’m told this group puts on a show on and off the ice. Since the Coliseum sits empty much of the time, this is a good thing. It will prove once and for all if people here care enough about hockey to buy tickets. Give them a chance.

Public Comment:

Surena Fish intimates Mollie Ward’s Safety Commission amateur hour compared to the McLean County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. She also talked about the tent city clearly visible when entering downtown from the south and spending millions on streetscape. Gary Lambert was next. He talked about the streetscape and then illegal immigrants coming to Bloomington and the mayor’s comments to WGLT.  He also mentioned the electric buses and Heartland becoming EV central for training.

Note to Gary: Connect has 12 electric buses with 1 working as of a week or so ago. The FOIA didn’t show much hope for getting them all back on the road.

The third comment was by Patrick Dullard encouraging the Council to approve more trails for south Bloomington. It was on the Consent Agenda so of course it passed:

I wonder if Dullard was biking recently in the freezing cold and ice?
