Are companies close to NOT hiring college grads?

Green Top hasn’t met their fundraising goal even with $20,000 from one donor and $5,000 from another. A few people gave $1,000, most of the others are $100 or less: https://www.gofundme.com/f/keep-local-organic-food-in-our-community

Some ISU students want their own Green Top but can’t find anyone wanting to participate.

Uptown is a food desert according to this Vidette article: https://www.videtteonline.com/news/what-the-illinois-grocery-initiative-means-for-uptown-normal/article_eec4ca84-0377-11ef-b171-e768a7e02f8e.html

Evidently ISU doesn’t have a cafeteria like most colleges do.

These kids pay tuition that includes showing their student ID for free rides from Connect Transit. ISU pays CT monthly for this service.

Do they really want a boutique expensive grocery store instead of a short road trip? Years ago there was a grocery store right by campus. Wasn’t it an A&P? It closed, maybe because they couldn’t make any money!

I’m really worried these students will never grow up because they have been coddled all their lives. Add this story to yesterday’s where they need election day off so they can vote.

If you see any kids around ISU dropping because of hunger, direct them to the proper authorities. I hear McLean County wants to expand mental health services.

I’m even more embarrassed now to be an ISU grad. Horror of horrors, I had to walk long distances in the freezing cold to attend classes because I didn’t live on campus and couldn’t park close to buildings I had classes in. Today they can ride a bus across campus and then work out in an ISU facility built just for them.

I don’t know why any company would hire them, they will probably be making TikTok videos complaining about having to work a 40 hour week.

Okay, I quit with ISU unless I find my diploma and film burning it.

  1. If you’re looking for people who would rather subvert your business than work hard to make it successful, hiring from college and university campuses are your best options.

You are likely to find those who –
    1. Hold racist and terrorist viewpoints.
    2. Will not accept viewpoint diversity.
    3. Have a socialist even communist world view.
    4. Expect others to pay for their debt and bad decisions.
    5. Believe that equality of outcome is a valid concept. (Equity)
    6. Have no sense of personal responsibility.
    7. Believe that the purpose of a business is to promote social issues even to the detriment of the survival of the company.
    8. Might have been accepted to their university, received scholarships, and graduated based on their identity characteristics.

  2. I admit I skimmed the article, but it talks about Jewel and Kroger being the nearest or closest stores. What about Schnucks up on Raab?? And these kids Door Dash and Grub Hub like no tomorrow. Walmart, Aldi and another chain now deliver. So is any place really a desert for the college students? I also say this as an ISU grad and Alum. There use to be the Eagle store on Main that is now the Alumni Center that we went to back in the day. I don’t know that we free access to CTS back then, but you always knew someone with a car that would give you a ride.

  3. I went to ISU and lived in Cardinal Court with my newborn back when Cardinal Court had cement walls and floors. There was a Jewel Osco by Fairview that I did my shopping at which had a penny horse outside that my girl ended up needing to ride all the time!! The building is all ISU offices now. These current students think those who came before them don’t know struggle or how to get up early for voting or to take a child to daycare off campus and still make it to class on time. Dare I ever make my being a teen Mom an issue so I can get treated differently or better. Didn’t ask for an extension or to cancel class because of a sick child and I didn’t want special privileges or a separate due date on an assignment just for me. No. I did the grind and didn’t make excuses and manned up so I wouldn’t fall behind. It seems these kids want to stay behind and made their bed there.

    1. Having worked with students for over 20 years, the stories I could share… I can tell you that it has gotten much, much worse over the last 6-7 years. The coddling, the complaining, the excuses. It’s infuriating. It was enough to make me leave working directly with students.

  4. Human Resources and recruiting systems are highly flawed and exploitive to many Illinois citizens for sure (bias, algorithmic discrimination, data breaches, B2B abuses, AWS role based system abuses, data lakes that exploit private data (all types)and more ….)

Pritzker and his Deloitte buddies and U of I was the master mind and profiteer $$$

Affirmative action never went away and is built into every org and state sept in Illinois. Only called DEI now.

  5. IGA store I believe there on Main Street. ISU acquired it and made it in a museum area for some collections. After that the office for Financial Aid moved into it along with Alumni services for fund raising. I’m not sure what is in there now.

    1. Yes it was an IGA. They had a kiosk (before that was a thing) for testing vacuum tubes. When our TV stopped working it was my job to walk to IGA with the suspect vacuum tube, test it and buy a replacement if it was bad. If memory serves me I may have even occasionally picked up a pack of Lucky Strikes for my parents too.

    2. After IGA it became a People’s Drug store. When I went to NCHS we used to go there all the time on our open lunch to get snacks and candy so they even got business from the highschool. Before the bell rang in the morning, some of us would go to get donuts.

  6. I’m sure Normal will spend millions of tax dollars to put in a store so the idiots will be able to buy booze without having to injure their delicate little brains trying to figure out how to get to a store! My question is WHERE are they going to put the store so ALL the little snowflakes can walk to it to buy the booze? WHAT home or business is going to be destroyed in order for it to happen?
