Road ratings part 2

Part 1: https://blnnews.com/2024/05/07/citizens-wants-the-roads-fixed-they-wont-be/

Today’s addition is east of Veterans, north of Oakland, and south of Empire:

I mapped all the roads with the worst rating – 3.

East Washington has a small section that’s 6 lanes – .06 miles x 6 = .36 lane miles

It also has 2 sections that are 4 lanes, .38 miles – .38 x 4 = 1.52 lane miles

Prospect has two sections with 3 lanes, .55 miles – .55 x 3 = 1.65 lane miles

All of the other roads are 2 lanes, total 2.38 miles – 2.38 x 2 = 4.76 lane miles

Just this small area has a total of 8.29 lane miles of horrible roads.

Add that to the 12.14 lane miles from the previous story.

20.43 lane miles of awful roads – just in SE Bloomington.

Since Bloomington won’t admit how bad the roads are, I have to show them and you. Meanwhile downtown and “rebranding” gets money the roads need.

How much would it cost just to resurface this 20.43 miles? The only safe answer is MUCH more than what the City budgeted for the entire city! Tomorrow’s edition will be Empire to the north edge of Bloomington. Stay tuned.

  1. When does the multi-year Rt 9 reconstruction start/continue this year? Hopefully someone has taken into consideration the segments on BOTH sides of BJHS and BHS and when students are in attendance…..

  2. Bloomington is approaching the bad roads like a fireman approaching a house on fire with a squirt gun the fire will never be out out and the house will burn down
