On social media, use the hashtag #SAVEActMustPassSAVE Act BackgroundThe US House bill: Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act (HB 8281) was introduced by Representative Chip Roy (TX–21) and co-sponsored by over 100 other patriotic Congressmen. While only U.S. citizens can legally vote in Federal elections, Federal law has generally preempted and undermined state laws requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. Here in Illinois it is even worse. Illinois law forbids the Department of Motor vehicles sharing citizenship data that it has collected with the State Board of Elections, county/city Election Authorities, or Immigration enforcement. The SAVE Act would fix this problem, requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote in Federal elections. Key elements of this bill are:Amends the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), to require states to obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship and identity – in person – when registering an individual to vote in a Federal election.Requires states to establish a program to remove noncitizens from their existing voter rolls and gives states no-cost access to Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration databases for that purpose.Empowers citizens to bring civil suits against election officials that fail to uphold proof of citizenship requirements for Federal elections by expanding the NVRA’s existing private right of action, and adds penalties for election officials that register noncitizens to vote in Federal elections. 5 year olds pay sales tax on candy, want them voting? Nobody who has no idea what voting means or understands who they are voting for should vote. I bet you are a democracy dude instead of believing in a republic. Democracies buy votes, they also don’t last long.
