County Board Democrats lowered your property taxes? Really?

By: Diane Benjamin

First of all, the Assessor sets property tax rates, not the County Board.

The levy is the total amount the County wants to collect in property taxes. Explain this if the levy was decreased 3.5%.

Isn’t $49 million more than $46 million?

Even if the levy was decreased 3.5%, assessed values increased way more than that. Keep last year’s bill handy to compare with the one you will get next spring.

It’s going to be a fun the next two years watching math and economics challenged democrats run the county.

  1. Diane I don’t think leftist are math and economically challenged. I think they know exactly what they’re doing and think everyone is so stupid we won’t see their slight of hand.

  2. You’re looking at the total dollars not the rate. The County DID decrease the tax rate, as Able stated, by 3.5% However, she leaves out that because the assessed values went up 12% for the average person, that 3.5% reduction really doesn’t do anything for the average tax payer. Most are paying the same or more.

  3. Also, the assessor only sets the assessed value of the homes. The county board determines how much they want to tax that EAV by.

  4. LoL @ Krystle Able !

    Challenge :

step 1. open this years tax bill when it arrives

step 2: lay it next to last years tax bill.

Which one is higher ? by how much?

Yep. That is how democrats have your back in Mclean County- lol- they stabbed it !

  5. Someone really needs to look into the assessment and GIS systems and taxing unrealized gains calling it “fair” and sustainable for communities. I know Texas (contractors and property owners) and counties have disputed the CAD (Centralized Assessment District) practices as borderline illegal be redefining terms in a deceptive way to make it seem fair.

I’m afraid Central Illinois has become a test case for this tax exploit and system but no one seems to be able to give straight answers. Thanks for keeping these narratives on peoples minds as many don’t understand it all or make it seems like “taxes are gonna be reduced, utilities improved, schools and pensions and jobs saved….and so on.”. Heard this for decades.

There are reasons people don’t stay in Central Illinois long or can afford to. (Property Taxes, fees and other money funnel ….) called public/private partnerships,

Discouraging for sure to see more deception. I believe at this point these people in charge are either silos/tools, children or just not experienced in much except marketing and data and FinTech/technocratic schemes on the back of long time citizens calling it innovation and modernization (theft).
