See what “Governing By Feelings” looks like: Bloomington City Council

By: Diane Benjamin

The only eventful part of the meeting was the discussion about changing the language for seats at the PSCRB. (Public Safety Citizens Review Board)

About three years ago Mollie Ward wanted 2 seats for 16-21 year old’s. They did have two kids for about a years, in the last 2 1/2 years they haven’t been able to recruit any so now it is hard to get a quorum to even hold meetings. The current PSCRB board wanted the language changed for the 2 seats to say non-youth can fill them.

Mollie Ward opposed the change, she was joined by Cody Hendricks. Michael Hurt had detailed all the unsuccessful attempts to recruit youth over the past 2 1/2 years. At one point Ward claimed her husband didn’t know and he would recruit for them. Cody Hendricks claimed the same.

It didn’t matter the head of the Board had previously claimed the two kids that were on the Board rarely attended meetings because of other interests at school.

5 members of the Council voted to not change the language which means the PSCRB will continue to have problems getting a quorum.

The 5 are: Jenna Kearns, John Danenberger, Cody Hendricks, Molly Ward, and Tom Crumpler.

These 5 “feel” kids should be represented on the Board. It doesn’t matter if they don’t show up for meetings or if no kids wants to serve on the Board.

To these 5 the work of the PSCRB isn’t important enough to make sure they have the ability to actually hold meetings.

Common sense plays zero role in how these 5 govern. If any of these 5 actually find a kid willing to serve they should be responsible for getting the kid to meetings. They won’t. Feeling good about your actions is all that matters – not results. Mollie Ward is running unopposed. Cody Hendricks wants to be mayor. You really don’t want a mayor with no common sense. “Feelings” make disastrous policy.

Michael Mosley was sworn into office to represent Ward 2. He showed common sense by voting against this cabal. I hope it continues. Meanwhile not replacing Jenna Kearns and Tom Crumpler with Common Sense candidates (Ben Zimmerman and Roger Bedeker) means “feelings” will continue obstruct what actually works.

Just hit Play to see the request of the PSCRB chair defeated:

  1. I’m confused regarding the issue here. What’s the problem with the board? What is this board actually do? What do these kids do and is the issue nobody fills the seat or nobody who has a seat participates? What’s the solution, in your eyes?

    1. The had trouble holding meetings with 2 employees seats. The board hears citizens complaints the police didn’t resolve. There aren’t many. I don’t know what viewers kid bring, it should have been charged to allow adults to

  2. PSCRB is a toothless , liberal infested , joke that only exists because the city needed some salve for their posterior that was ‘hurt’ during the BLM/ANTiFA protests. Now out of fashion , it struggles on usually short of a quorum. They can’t find youth members because the young see with clarity how ineffective and inconsequential the meetings are.

No young person that is in touch with their peer group wants to give up free time to listen to some old libs yak on and on about nothing that doesn’t matter anyway.

  3. Diane, can you please provide a brief summary of how and when this board was formed, and who voted for it? Thanks

  4. A very quick review. This seems to have first been discussed at a June 2017 Whole Committee meeting, then voted by Council that month. Were there numerous complaints against the police? Were the police in favor of this board? Any other background would be appreciated. Thanks.
