No activities used to be scheduled on Wednesday nights at Tri-Valley because many kids and their parents had church activities. That night was reserved out of respect.
The new low is scheduling this event on a Wednesday night during LENT. Superintendent Ben Derges also knows candidate Casey Misch can not attend tomorrow because he is at a required class in Chicago. Derges does not want Casey elected – he’s the only not currently elected candidate that has been attending meetings. An informed representative of the people paying Tri-Valley’s bills isn’t allowed.

I expect Unit 5 and District 87 to keep holding meeting on Wednesday nights during Lent. All, including Tri-Valley, are holding a School Board meeting on March 19th – a Wednesday night.
Wednesday is also traditionally ‘Dad day’ for divorced families. A good way to make sure school boards continue to be biased towards emotionalism vs rationalism, i.e. you can never spend too much money ‘for the kids’.
This clearly shows the contempt and outright disrespect for Christians and Catholics during the Lent.
Makes one Wonder if they would likewise put some sort of mechanism requiring “work” during the Sabbath or Shabbat to prevent the Jewish population from being able to attend. Likewise other Important religious days of Fervent Worship, Prayer, and Sacrifice.
I understand your point of view.
I think if the meetings are posted for a particular time in advance enough that all may arrange their respective schedules, the meetings should be held as posted.
If separation of state and church is to be upheld, changing a posted meeting to accommodate a particular entity would undermine the separation.
Personally I would rather have a defined separation instead of having to deal with different factions stating their rights were denied because of noncompliance or some arbitrary interpretation of what is religion and what isn’t.
I’ve been down a similar rabbit hole. Easier to change all of the meetings instead of trying to learn which dates work for everyone and eventually none work
PTO is holding this event. Superintendent override the date. He knows 1 candidate can’t be there
The separation of church and state simply was to.prohibit the establishment of a “state religion” (i.e. Church of England, Islamic Republic of Iran, etc.,). It’s the most misunderstood and misinterpreted concept in American government. If this was not the case, liberal pols have been in violation of it for years. They have been campaigning in places of worship during regular services for years.
I agree. Schools should remain as neutral as possible. Part of being an adult is making hard choices. If you have to choose to miss a school event due to faith obligations, or vice-versa, then so be it.
