Many thousands of people signed Witness Slips when the original bill to regulate homeschooling was heard by committee. It was passed anyway.
Since rules are immaterial, the original sponsor added an amendment that could be voted on anytime. The amendment pretends truancy officers have time to access educational portfolios and refer charges to the State’s Attorney.
All parents need to reject this attempt to eliminate homeschooling and turn parents into criminals.
If you have a Democrat State Representative or Senator contact them. Ask them to oppose the 2nd Amendment to HB 2827 and the entire bill:
Sharon Chung: (217) 782-5199
Dave Koehler: (217) 782-8250
Next, file a witness slip OPPOSING the 2nd Amendment to HB 2827:

That website has resources and information parents need to homeschool.
Of course you could continue to send your kids to the public school war zone – teachers wrote these comments after SB 100 was passed: https://blnnews.com/2025/04/04/illinois-schools-racial-disparities-in-discipline-post-senate-bill-100/

Welcome to the liberal America that many of us have come to dislike immensely. Teachers have been turned into being parents of the students that they teach but at the same time they cannot discipline these students. So as a result you have schools that are totally out of control and learning results have become dismal. Teachers need to be allowed to get back to teaching and your high paid administrators need to become the discipline police.
It is no wonder that dedicated teachers are becoming a thing of the past. How sad!!
I think homeschooling only results in a lack of social skills and oftentimes education. I don’t know.
I know home schooled kids. The have superior intelligence and plenty of social skills. They aren’t locked in their house all day
As a homeschool mom, I can tell you that whenever my kids take field trips (yes, homeschool kids take field trips) the adults interacting with our group at a given location are always blown away by how respectful, attentive and polite our kids are. Makes you wonder what their experience of talking to a group of public school kids is like, doesn’t it?
Should we talk about sexual assaults now? There were almost 500 complaints in Chicago Public Schools alone last year of teacher on student abuse. Is this the kind of socialization you think my kids are missing out on?
As far as education quality goes, did you know that only 32% of seniors graduating high school in Illinois are proficient in the English language? At the local school where my children would go the percentage of kids reading on grade level varies from 40% on down, depending on grade level. So at best 60% of the kids in a given classroom, can’t read as they should. All of my children are reading at or far beyond grade level.
That was either a teacher who hates competition or a parent who does want to believe public schools are bad for their kids
